During operation, the system monitors performance of a machine, runs a chat application on behalf of the monitored machine, and determines whether a user is authorized to access performance information associated with the monitored machine. In response to the user being authorized to access the performance information, the system allows the user to obtain the performance information via the chat application.

Abstract: The disclosure herein describes an intelligent chat system. During operation, the system monitors content provided by participants of an online chat, and automatically obtains, from a data source, additional information based on the monitored content. The system then presents the obtained additional information to the chat participants without the need for the chat participants to request the additional information.

Abstract: A server system is configured to provide an e-mail based interface for executing management operations on a virtualized infrastructure which includes a plurality of virtual machines (VMs), underlying host computers, clusters, and/or data centers. Such an interface may be provided in a virtualized infrastructure to enable a system administrator to execute administrative operations remotely from a mobile device without requiring custom installation of an application on the mobile device or a secure connection to the server system. The server system receives e-mails at a pre-determined e-mail address, authenticates the sender of the e-mail, and extracts and executes commands from the e-mail. A number of techniques for validating the e-mail containing server commands may also be provided.
