  • Publication number: 20110300589
Abstract: The present invention relates to bacterial strains, capable of utilizing glycerol as a carbon source for the fermentative production of succinic acid, wherein said strains are genetically modified so that they comprise a deregulation of their endogenous pyruvate-formate-lyase enzyme activity, as well as to methods of producing organic acids, in particular succinic acid, by making use of such microorganism. The present invention also relates to the downstream processing of the produced organic acids by cation exchange chromatography.

  • Publication number: 20110151517
Abstract: A process for the preparation of aqueous solutions of glucans having a ?-1,3-glycosidically-linked main chain and side groups having a ?-1,6-glycosidic bond by fermentation of fungal strains. The fungal strains secrete the glucans into the fermentation broth, in an aqueous culture medium, and the separation of the glucans from the fermentation broth is effected using asymmetrical filter membranes.

  • Publication number: 20110112274
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for isolating polyhydroxyalkanoates from production cells which comprises i) disintegrating the production cells, subsequently ii) separating off the cell fragments from the polyhydroxyalkanoate grains by means of a continuous jet separator; iii) the concentrated polyhydroxyalkanoate grains are washed with an aqueous alkali solution and then iv) with an aqueous acid.
