    Abstract: An insulating coating is applied to the metallic components in a nuclear reactor water environment to decrease and/or mitigate general corrosion and erosion-corrosion of the reactor component's metallic surfaces. Preferably, the coating is a 0.1 micron to 0.3 mm thin layer of an oxide coating such as titania (TiO2), zirconia (ZrO2), tantala (Ta2O5), Al2O3, CeO2 or similar oxides; or a thin layer of the metal, such as Ti, Zr, Ta, Hf, Ce, Al, which will oxidize in the reactor water environment. The applied coating provides a protective layer between the component surfaces and the reactor water environment. By reducing and/or eliminating the potential for corrosion on reactor metallic components, the coating eliminates or minimizes the potential for activated corrosion products to contaminate the reactor water. The coating is especially beneficial for nickel-alloy based metals that contribute significant cobalt-related corrosion products, and will also be effective on austenitic stainless steel components.

A reflective layer (28) is disposed on a light transmissive first end (22) of the lamp vessel. The reflective layer reflects light emitted by the source of illumination into the interior space. The lamp is suited to use in a vehicle headlamp. The reflective layer enables the lamp to have a higher efficiency than a conventional lamp with a black end coat.

    Abstract: A tightly adherent anti-stick coating applied over coated turbine components of gas turbine engines. The tightly adherent coating is an oxide of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Pt, W, group 4b and group 5b metals of the periodic table and Si, Ge and Sn of group 4a. The oxide is applied directly over existing environmental coatings, and thermal barrier coatings. It can also be applied directly to substrate material and to areas that are not within the combustion exhaust gases, such as platform portions and shank portions of airfoils including turbine blades. The oxide is conveniently applied to a uniform thickness of no greater than about 10 microns, and prevents the build-up of corrosion products and other products of combustion from the gases, thereby increasing the life expectancy of the component.
