  • Publication number: 20090239557
Abstract: Radio Data System (RDS) Interactive Services (IS) combines data feeds and interactivity with programs broadcast on FM channels. An RDS-IS client application on user equipment (e.g., handset) extracts RDS information from the RDS enabled FM receiver, and presents content on a mobile screen in a user-friendly format. Broadcasted RDS message can include special strings or “anchors” for special treatment by receivers. Receivers replace text with visuals to enhance user experience, such as cartoons or photographic icons based on names in RadioText fields. The RDS-IS client application generates specific prompts and composes interactive screens, enables hot keys and decides actions (e.g., voice calls, SMS) on key press, triggers contextual e-commerce by invoking data calls to given URLs, and sends statistics to the operator of a two-way data channel that provides enhanced content (e.g., CDMA reverse link, SMS, wireless access network, etc.) based upon “anchors” or “tags” included with the RDS-IS message.

  • Publication number: 20090076912
Abstract: Providing for management of a dynamic mobile coupon (DMC) at a mobile device is described herein. Particularly, dynamic characteristics associated with the DMC, such as a redeemable value, can be utilized to browse, sort, search, recall, or redeem the DMC utilizing a user interface of the mobile device. In other aspects, a DMC management application can interact with server components to backup and store DMC data, synchronize dynamic information (e.g., a dynamic redeemable value), access or manage a user profile, interface with other mobile devices to accomplish sharing, trading, exchanging, selling the DMC, and so on. Accordingly, provided is an efficient and personable way to manage mobile coupons in a mobile operating environment and provide increased value and utility for a user of such coupons.

  • Publication number: 20090076911
Abstract: Providing for distribution of a dynamic mobile coupon (DMC) based on verified peer-to-peer (P-P) ranging between two wireless devices is described herein. By way of example, a first device can form a wireless link with a mobile device and initiate P-P ranging. By analyzing signals sent over the wireless link, a distance between such devices can be determined. In addition, at least a minimum distance between such devices can be verified based on actions performed by the mobile device that require a minimum completion time. Based in part on this verified distance, a DMC can be issued to the mobile device. Accordingly, the subject disclosure provides for increased security for issuing the DMC and mitigation of device spoofing, by verifying a minimum distance to the mobile devices and conditioning issuance of the DMC on such verified distance.

  • Publication number: 20090061884
Abstract: Dynamic mobile coupons (DMCs) having a variable commercial value and/or other variable coupon characteristic are provided herein. By way of example, a DMC can be distributed to a mobile device based on criteria established by a sponsor of the DMC. A redemption value of the DMC can be variable and dynamically established based at least in part on data associated with a recipient mobile device. Upon redemption of the DMC at a retail entity, the value is fixed and applied to a transaction. Details of the transaction are provided to a remote clearinghouse that performs mediation and indemnification functions to finalize the transaction. As described, the subject disclosure provides a DMC that facilitates a rich and flexible mechanism to generate purchasing incentive for consumers in a mobile environment.

  • Publication number: 20090045951
Abstract: Devices and methods of generating an alert comprise receiving a broadcast radio transmission at a communication device, wherein the broadcast radio transmission comprises primary content and supplemental content having a relationship to the primary content. Further, the primary content comprises a first audio data, and the supplemental content comprises a non-audio data. The devices and methods further include detecting the receiving of the supplemental content, and generating an alert signal operable to activate an alerting device to output a non-visual notification.

  • Publication number: 20080313697
Abstract: Apparatus and methods enhancing radio programming include receiving a broadcast radio transmission at a communication device. The broadcast radio transmission includes primary content and supplemental content having a relationship to the primary content. Further, the primary content includes a first audio data, while the supplemental content includes audio data. Additionally, the apparatus and methods include converting the supplemental content into converted supplemental content, maintaining the relationship to the primary content. Moreover, the converted supplemental content includes second audio data converted from the non-audio data. Thus, the described apparatus and methods allow the communication device to output signals for generating audible representations of both the primary content and the supplemental content.

  • Publication number: 20080293402
Abstract: A roaming emulator provides a tool for emulating system determination for monitoring the operation of a wireless communication device (WCD) during system determination. A signal monitoring program and service selection protocol are stored, and a signal emulation module provides a signal emulation output in accordance with a predetermined set of data. A processing module performs a simulation of a service selection procedure based on the service selection protocol and performed in accordance with the signal monitoring program and the signal emulation output. A result of the service selection is provided by an output module. The emulator can provide emulated system scanning based on geographical or market location, and can emulate scenarios when channels from neighboring systems or markets “bleed” into the RF environment of the WCD.
