  • Patent number: 10728870
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for avoiding attempts by a UE to attach to a RAT network when that RAT network is unavailable. According to certain aspects, the UE may detect scenarios when the RAT network is unavailable and take preemptive action to prevent the UE from attempting to acquire service on that RAT. For example, the UE may effectively remove that RAT from a list of supported RATs by sending a UE capability message indicating that RAT is not supported, which may prevent network-initiated transitions of the UE to that RAT. The UE may also remove the unavailable RAT from an internal list of supported RATs, which may prevent UE-initiated transitions to that RAT.

  • Patent number: 9622176
Abstract: The present disclosure presents a method and an apparatus for packet filtering to save power at a user equipment (UE). For example, the disclosure presents a method for receiving a packet filtering configuration message, at a modem processor (MP) of the UE, from an application processor (AP) in communication with the MP, wherein the packet filtering configuration message includes one or more packet filtering rules for filtering packets associated with one or more applications, configuring a packet filter at the MP based at least on the one or more packet filtering rules received in the packet filtering configuration message, and enabling the configured packet filter at the MP in response to receiving an indication from the AP that the AP entered a low power or sleep mode, wherein the enabled packet filter allows or drops a packet based on the packet filtering rules. As such, packet filtering to save power at UE may be achieved.

  • Publication number: 20160119874
Abstract: Systems and methods for managing communications on a communication device are disclosed. A method may include receiving a communication packet at the communication device via a network connection and determining, at the communication device, whether the communication packet is an unsolicited control packet. Dormancy of the network connection is triggered after a first time period if the communication packet is not an unsolicited control packet, and dormancy of the network connection is triggered after a second time period if the communication packet is an unsolicited control packet wherein the second time period is less than the first time period.

  • Patent number: 9155005
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for wireless communication in a mobile device that includes relinquishing a client side high level operation system (HLOS) internet protocol (IP) context of a user equipment (UE), when the UE, connected to a network via a Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) connection, is transported to a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) connection area. Aspects of the methods and apparatus include maintaining a Packet Data Protocol (PDP) context of the UE, when the UE, connected to the network via the WWAN connection, is transported to a WLAN connection area. Aspects of the methods and apparatus include setting a linger timer for a certain period of time to defer deactivation of the PDP context and deactivating the PDP context when the linger timer expires.

  • Publication number: 20070155376
Abstract: More seamless handoff between access networks is achieved by saving session information for each access network upon being handed off from the access network and invoking the saved session information upon being handed back to the access network. An access terminal establishes a first session with a first access network, which may entail performing QoS negotiation with the first access network and setting up packet filters at a packet data gateway. The access terminal exchanges data with the first access network in accordance with the configuration of the first session. The access terminal saves the first session configuration after being handed off to a second access network, establishes a second session with the second access network, and exchanges data with the second access network in accordance with the configuration of the second session. The access terminal uses the saved first session configuration upon being handed back to the first access network.
