    Abstract: A pattern of coating is applied to a label, such that the coating covers the periphery, including a portion of the top surface of the label, and overlaps onto the liner ply area adjacent to the label. The coating is selected to form a stable and resistant film that spans continuously along the label edge and liner surfaces. The coating reduces adhesive ooze when the label is exposed to elevated ambient temperatures and pressures.

    Abstract: A method of removing both Sr and Cs from an alkaline solution having a pH between about 9 to 14 includes providing a keratin protein from essentially a fiber portion separated from a quill portion of a poultry feather. A slurry is made of the keratin protein and the alkaline solution and is treated ultrasonically. The Sr and Cs may each be present in the alkaline solution at least at about 5 ppb. The keratin protein is contacted with the Sr and Cs by mechanical agitation at a temperature between about 20 to 90° C. and at a pressure not greater than about 10 psi. A supernatant produced in the step of contacting is then filtered.

    Abstract: A single ply carbonless form is provided where a sheet is divided into a first portion and a second portion. A coating of CF is applied to the first portion and a coating of CB is applied to the second portion, both on the same side of the sheet. A quantity of temporary tacking agent is applied to the back face of the sheet such that, upon folding the sheet in a manner where the CF and CB portions are not in contact with each other, the first portion is releasably held against the second portion. The form may then be sheet fed into a printing device, preferably using the folded edge as the leading edge. Subsequent to printing, the form may then be re-folded such that the CF and CB coating suitably line up for receiving impact impressions.

    Abstract: A laminated product is provided including a carrier sheet, a polymeric film ply, a polymeric card ply, and a radiation-curable laminating adhesive. The polymeric film ply is secured to the carrier sheet and extends over a cut-out portion formed in the carrier sheet. The polymeric card ply is positioned within the cut-out portion. Either the film ply, the card ply, or both, are transparent to electromagnetic radiation. The radiation-curable laminating adhesive is positioned to secure the polymeric card ply to the exposed ply portion and comprises a bonding agent, a monomer, an oligomer, a tackifier, and a photocatalyst. The bonding agent is present in a quantity sufficient to improve the bonding characteristics of the adhesive composition. The monomer is present in a quantity sufficient to (i) increase the flexibility of the adhesive composition, and (ii) increase the tendency of the adhesive composition to release substantially cleanly from a surface to which it is bonded.

The resin is substantially transparent to light in the visible spectrum. The liner ply defines a label portion and a removable portion, wherein the label portion includes variable printed matter thereon. The adhesive interface is arranged to adhere the liner ply to the base portion.

    Abstract: An antistatic composition is provided for use with a label construction which includes an organic cationic polyelectrolyte, a binder, and a surfactant. The composition is preferably used in a label construction comprising a polymer film substrate having a pressure sensitive adhesive on its second surface, a release liner overlying the pressure sensitive adhesive, with the antistatic composition being provided on the second surface of release liner. The antistatic composition reduces the surface resistivity of the second surface of said release liner. The antistatic composition may also be used in combination with a toner adhesion-enhancing coating which is provided on the first surface of the substrate to improve print quality. The labels may be stacked or provided in roll form such that the antistatic composition reduces the coefficient of friction between adjacent labels and prevents the build-up of static charges on the labels.

    Abstract: A mailer intermediate is formed from a sheet having at least one transverse fold line dividing the sheet into a first panel and a second panel such that the first panel longitudinal dimensions are equal to, or exceed the second panel longitudinal dimensions. The second panel is folded over onto the first panel. A temporary tacking agent is applied to the face of the sheet to temporarily tack down the folded over, transverse edge of the lower panel. The mailer intermediate may be processed in this pre-folded condition according to the user's variable imaging needs because there are no loose edges to catch in printer output stacking trays, or jam in internal components of printers. The longitudinal edges of the return envelope panel may be permanently sealed prior to printing, or may be sealed later during processing through folder/sealer equipment.
