  • Publication number: 20110164527
Abstract: Enhancements are disclosed for wireless ad hoc networking including optimized wireless routing, multicast routing, quick network entry, use of contention domains and node weighting for improved time slot scheduling, and the like. Quality of service may be supported at each node and within scheduling algorithms across a group of nodes in order to provide a number of service levels to network users according to traffic type or the like. These and other enhancements may be used individually or in combination to improve operation of a wireless ad hoc network and support scalability, routing, traffic management, quality of service delivery, and other features.

  • Publication number: 20090252134
Abstract: In embodiments of the present invention improved capabilities are described for a mobile broadband routable internet (MBRI) providing for carrier-grade, networked, broadband, IP-routable communication among a plurality of mobile devices, where the mobile devices may represent a plurality of nodes that are linked together through a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). Mobile devices may operate as peers in a peer-to-peer network, with full IP routing capabilities enabled within each mobile device, thereby allowing routing of IP-based traffic, including deployment of applications, to the mobile device without need for infrastructure conventionally required for mobile ad hoc networks, such as cellular telephony infrastructure. Full IP-routing to mobile devices may allow seamless integration to the fixed Internet, such as through fixed or mobile access points, such as for backhaul purposes.

  • Patent number: 6594685
Abstract: The present invention is a universal application program interface (API) utilizing a generic message format for performing call control processing and capable of being customized to meet telecommunications application and network signaling protocol requirements. The generic message formats have programmable fields for transmitting commands, status, and data between the host application and the switch. The present invention further provides the switch the ability to perform switching functions between ports associated with distinct protocols without supervision from the host application. The universal API of the present invention may be implemented to achieve communications internal to the switch as well. For example, the generic messages of the universal API may be used to support communications between any software layer within the switch.

  • Patent number: 6463056
Abstract: A network protocol data intelligence (NPDI) software in the switching node that enables the call processing components in the L4 and L5 applications to interpret and manipulate different network signaling data protocols. The call processing applications are expanded to understand different network signaling protocols and to extract the required information from each protocol's data stream. The NPDI provides the means for the L4 application to convert from one network signaling data format to another either, by itself or in conjunction with the L5 application. Thus, the system operator may configure the switch to perform all call processing functions or by-pass the NPDI and have the L5 application perform these functions. The L4 application may also perform data translation from host applications written against the underlying network protocol to the different signaling protocols from other networks.
