Abstract: Personal-care compositions for improving keratinous tissue conditions, particularly skin lightening, comprising a turmerone compound, a safe and effective amount of at least one additional skin and/or hair care active, and a dermatologically acceptable carrier are provided. Suitable additional skin and/or hair care actives are a sugar amine, a vitamin B3 compound, a retinoid, a peptide, a hexamidine, a sunscreen, a water-soluble vitamin, an oil-soluble vitamin, an additional skin lightener, and combinations thereof. Methods for regulating the condition of mammalian keratinous tissue and for lighening skin by topically applying the personal-care compositions are also provided.
