    Abstract: Systems and methods for implement an item lockout at a vending machine. For example, an item may be locked out due to a recall associated with the item. The systems and methods include detecting a lockout request indicating an item type. The systems and methods also include querying an inventory database to identify items associated with the item type. The inventory database is configured to store item records of items offered by a vending machine and store a status of the items offered by the vending machine. Additionally, the systems and methods include changing a status of the items associated with the item type to indicate that the items are locked out. Changing the status of the items prevents the corresponding items from appearing in a list of available items.
