  • Publication number: 20170104066
Abstract: A method for adjusting a threshold voltage includes depositing a strained liner on a gate structure to strain a gate dielectric. A threshold voltage of a transistor is adjusted by controlling an amount of strain in the liner to control an amount of work function (WF) modulating species that diffuse into the gate dielectric in a channel region. The liner is removed.

  • Publication number: 20170104708
Abstract: System, method and electronic device providing proximity based communication and notification are disclosed. Presence of the electronic device is detected in a pre-defined area according to a detection methodology. The electronic device is then engaged according to an availability of identification details of the electronic device. The electronic device receives one time authentication request to collect the business identity and map it with the network identity. The business identity of the electronic device is verified and contact details of the electronic device are obtained. Subsequently when the electronic device enters the proximity range of a WiFi network, the system identifies its presence. The system identifies the contact details of the device based on the mapping of the network identity and business identity of the electronic device. The system sends multi-mode message communications to the electronic device based on defined proximity rules.

  • Publication number: 20170103957
Abstract: Fan-out wafer-level packaging (WLP) using metal foil lamination is provided. An example wafer-level package incorporates a metal foil, such as copper (Cu), to relocate bonding pads in lieu of a conventional deposited or plated RDL. A polymer such as an epoxy layer adheres the metal foil to the package creating conductive contacts between the metal foil and metal pillars of a die. The metal foil may be patterned at different stages of a fabrication process. An example wafer-level package with metal foil provides relatively inexpensive electroplating-free traces that replace expensive RDL processes. Example techniques can reduce interfacial stress at fan-out areas to enhance package reliability, and enable smaller chips to be used. The metal foil provides improved fidelity of high frequency signals. The metal foil can be bonded to metallic pillar bumps before molding, resulting in less impact on the mold material.

  • Patent number: 9619340
Abstract: A computer-implemented method may comprise performing a disaster recovery restore process on a target computing device; accessing a backup server; and selecting a source backup from the backup server. The source backup may comprise one or more volumes, partitions, files and device drivers of a source computing device from which the source backup was created. The selected source backup may then be installed in an offline partition of the target computing device. One or more target device drivers may then be installed in the offline partition. To complete the disaster recovery restore process on the target computing device, the target computing device may then be rebooted. Both the backup of the source computing device and the active partition of the target device may comprise source computing device-dependent hardware device drivers. When carried out in a Windows® environment, Sysprep need not be used and the kernel need not be modified.

  • Patent number: 9620088
Abstract: Technologies for low-power display refresh standby include a computing device with a display such as an LCD panel. The computing device may include a system-on-a-chip (SoC) with a processor, I/O subsystem, display controller, and memory. When the computing device determines that a display image is static, the computing device enters a low-power display refresh standby mode, powering down unneeded components of the SoC such as processor cores, peripheral devices, and memory other than a dedicated display buffer. The display controller may access the dedicated display buffer via the I/O subsystem and output the image to the display. The computing device may power down the I/O subsystem and the dedicated display buffer when a display controller FIFO is full of image data, and periodically power on the I/O subsystem and display buffer to fill the display controller FIFO. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 9622253
Abstract: In this invention, we disclose methods directed toward integrating an ad hoc cellular network into a fixed cellular network. The methods disclosed herein automate the creation and integration of these networks. In additional embodiments, we disclose methods for establishing a stand-alone, ad hoc cellular network. In either of these implementations, we integrate or establish an ad hoc cellular network using mobile ad hoc cellular base stations configured to transmit and receive over a variety of frequencies, protocols, and duplexing schemes. The methods flexibly and dynamically choose an access or backhaul configuration and radio characteristics to optimize network performance. Additional embodiments provide for enhancing an existing network's coverage as needed, establishing a local network in the event of a loss of backhaul coverage to the core network, and providing local wireless access service within the ad hoc cellular network.
