  • Patent number: 5918481
Abstract: The invention provides a method for separating fluorocarbons from mixtures of fluorocarbon and hydrogen fluoride. In particular, the invention provides a method for separating fluorocarbons, such as pentafluoropropane, from azeotropic mixtures of the fluorocarbon and hydrogen fluoride using compositional variations with pressure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 20, 1997
Date of Patent: July 6, 1999
    Assignee: AlliedSignal Inc.

  • Patent number: 5895639
Abstract: The invention provides a process for the separation of azeotropic mixtures of fluorocarbons from hydrogen fluoride. The most preferred fluorocarbon for this invention is 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane, which is also known as HFC-245fa. The separation in conducted by adding sulfuric acid to the mixture while the mixture is in either the liquid or gaseous states.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 3, 1996
Date of Patent: April 20, 1999
    Assignee: AlliedSignal Inc.
Inventors: Charles Francis Swain, Rajiv Ratna Singh, Hang Thanh Pham
  • Patent number: 5766483
Abstract: A method for separating hydrogen fluoride from a chemical mixture is provided. In the process of the invention, hydrogen fluoride is separated from a chemical mixture containing hydrogen fluoride by contacting the chemical mixture with a hydrogen fluoride binder. The separated hydrogen fluoride may be recovered from the hydrogen fluoride binder.

  • Patent number: 5736063
Abstract: The present invention provides refrigerant blends which are replacements for chlorodifluoromethane(HCFC-22). The present blends have refrigeration characteristics which are similar to HCFC-22. The blends comprise from about 10 to about 90 weight percent of a first component selected from the group consisting of 1,1,1-trifluoroethane, difluoromethane, propane, and mixtures thereof; from about 1 to about 50 weight percent of a second component selected from the group consisting of hydrofluorocarbon having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, fluorocarbon having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, inorganic compound, and mixtures thereof having a boiling point at atmospheric pressure in the range from about -90 degrees C. to less than -50 degrees C.; and from about 1 to about 50 weight percent of a third component which is hydrofluorocarbon having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, other than 1,1,1-trifluoroethane, having a boiling point at atmospheric pressure in the range from about -50 degrees C. to about -10 degrees C.
