  • Publication number: 20230348656
Abstract: Herein disclosed is an adhesive additive for magnetically curing an adhesive. The adhesive additive includes a magnetic nanoparticle that includes (i) a metal, wherein the metal comprises iron, manganese, cobalt, nickel, and/or zinc, or (ii) a metal oxide, wherein the metal oxide contains a metal which includes iron, manganese, cobalt, nickel, and/or zinc, a coating on the magnetic nanoparticle, wherein the coating comprises (a) a surfactant or an inorganic material, and (b) a monomer or a polymer which is miscible with an adhesive substrate which the adhesive additive is incorporable to, wherein the magnetic nanoparticle produces thermal energy in response to an alternating magnetic field applied thereto for the adhesive substrate to form cross-linkages. An adhesive, which is magnetically curable, is also disclosed herein. The adhesive includes the adhesive additive and an adhesive substrate. Methods of forming the adhesive additive are further disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 10629344
Abstract: A process for producing Co, Al alloyed NdFeB nanoparticles, by a microwave assisted combustion process, followed by a reduction diffusion process, includes the steps of: preparing a first solution of boric acid dissolved in 4 N HNO3, dissolving iron nitrate nonahydrate, neodymium nitrate hexahydrate, cobalt nitrate hexahydrate, aluminium nitrate, the first solution in deionized water to form a second solution, adding glycine to the second solution in a molar ratio of 1:1 to form a third solution, subjecting the third solution to microwave radiation, thereby forming an first powder of NdFeCoAlB oxides, mixing the first powder with calcium hydride in a mass ratio of 1:1.1 (NdFeCoAlB oxides:CaH2) to form a second powder, compacted into a powder block, annealing the second powder in a vacuum furnace, washing the annealed second powder with a solution of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid; and vacuum drying the second powder.

  • Publication number: 20190214173
Abstract: An apparatus for transferring heat from a heat source to a heat sink is disclosed. The apparatus comprises: a conduit containing a ferrofluid which comprises a plurality of magnetic nanoparticles, a first portion of the conduit being thermally coupleable to the heat source and a second portion of the conduit being thermally coupleable to the heat sink; and a magnetic element arranged to provide a magnetic field to the ferrofluid; wherein the magnetic element is located upstream of the first portion to drive a flow of the ferrofluid in the direction of the heat source.
