  • Publication number: 20050063893
Abstract: Thermally modified carbon blacks having such properties and of such purity so as to provide improved performance properties in food contact type applications, moisture cured polymer systems, zinc-carbon “dry cell” batteries, electrochemical applications such as alkaline batteries, other electrochemical power sources and other electronic applications, and for semi-conductive wire and cable applications; bladder compounds which show both improved thermal conductivity and improved processability; and other applications which may apply but are not necessarily specified herein; the carbon blacks produced by a continuous heat treatment process, or a variation of that process as it may develop.

  • Patent number: 6533859
Abstract: The invention comprises a composition comprising a combination of carbon black and at least one surface treating agent selected from the group consisting of quinone compounds, quinoneimine compounds and quinonediimine compounds, as well as methods of obtaining the composition and the use of the composition in dispersing carbon black in a natural or synthetic polymer. The composition achieves increased dispersibility and improved mixing characteristics of the carbon black and improved processability of the carbon black containing polymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 21, 2001
Date of Patent: March 18, 2003

  • Publication number: 20020165302
Abstract: Improved carbon black and method for producing improved carbon black by combining one or more additives with carbon black in the absence of a solvent or carrier resulting in an additive carbon black (ACB). The additive may include p-phenylenediamine (PPD) and related compounds. The invention also relates to improved polymer compositions and articles of-manufacture comprised of the improved carbon black and methods for making same. Advantages provided by the improved carbon blacks made in accordance with the invention may include reduced processing time for polymer, such as rubber, compositions and articles, as well as reduced cost and environmental impact from the production of the improved carbon blacks themselves.
