  • Publication number: 20040069473
Abstract: A heat transfer plate for a plate heat exchanger comprising a number of ridges (210) and troughs (220) which have been pressed into the plate, the heat transfer portion of the plate having a plurality of juxtaposed rows (200) of said ridges (210) and troughs (220). The rows (200) of ridges (210) and troughs (220) are separated from each other by essentially plane channel portions (240). Each row (200) presents alternating elongated ridges (210) and elongated troughs (220) which extend along a main flow direction (F). The transition between each ridge (210) and an adjacent trough (220) in the same row (200) is formed by a transition portion (230) which is inclined relative to the central plane (P1) of the plate (1). The heat transfer plate is used in a plate pack for a plate heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 6058974
Abstract: The invention relates to a valve for changing the flow direction of a fluid in conduits, which conduct the fluid to and from, respectively, a heat exchanger. Heat exchangers used in systems where the cooling water is taken from natural streams, river water, sea water etc often have problems with clogging. A method of keeping the heat exchanger clean is to regularly backflush it, i e to reverse the flow direction for example a few times every day, so that silt and particles, which have got stuck in the inlet region of the heat exchanger, are flushed out the same way as they entered. The valve according to the invention comprises a cylindrical casing and a valve body (18) enclosed therein. The conduits, which conduct the fluid to and from, respectively, said heat exchanger, are connected to two diametrically arranged connection tubes in the respective end plate on the casing, and by rotation of the valve body substantially 90.degree.

  • Patent number: 6016865
Abstract: In a plate heat exchanger the heat transfer plates (7, 8) are in pairs welded together to form cassettes (6). The two plates in every cassette bear on each other via corrugation ridges (25), which are crossing each other and create a flow path (33) between them for a first fluid. The cassettes (6) bear on each other via elevations (26), which are higher than the corrugation ridges (22) on the outsides of the cassettes. Between the cassettes (6) flow paths (34) are delimited for a second fluid. The main directions of flow for the two fluids are in parallel. Each one of the mentioned elevations (26) is elongated and extends with its longitudinal axis substantially in parallel with the main directions of flow for the fluids, bridging at most two valleys (23) between corrugation ridges (22) extending next to each other.

  • Patent number: 5950715
Abstract: In a plate heat exchanger the plate interspaces form first flow passages (13, 15; 15a) for a first fluid and other flow passages (14) for a second fluid. The plates have openings which for one of the fluids form one inlet channel (10) and one outlet channel (10a) through the plate package, the channels communicating with each other through the first flow passages (13, 15; 15a). A by-pass passage (15; 15a) is formed by at least one of the first flow passages and gives a through flow resistance that is substantially smaller than that given by each one of the other (13) first flow passages. In the inlet channel (10) or the outlet channel (10a), or in both channels, a valve member (17; 18; 26) is arranged for setting of a desired flow through the by-pass passage (15; 15a).

  • Patent number: 5913361
Abstract: In a plate heat exchanger, having double-walled plate formed heat transfer elements (1, 2), adjacent such heat transfer elements are permanently brazed together by means of three different and spaced brazing joints. A first brazing joint surrounds an area, which covers the heat transfer portions (3, 4) of the heat transfer elements and first inlet openings and outlet openings (8, 9) communicating with a flow passage (6) that is formed between said heat transfer portions. A second joint and a third joint surround respective inlet openings and outlet openings (10, 11), which are closed from communication with said flow passage (6). Leakage areas (16-19; 39), which communicate with the surrounding of the plate heat exchanger, are formed between said first joint and each one of said other joints.
