  • Patent number: 8878498
Abstract: A method for reducing a ripple, caused by rotational nonuniformity of an internal combustion engine, in the output voltage of a generator which is driven by the internal combustion engine is provided. The generator has a stator winding, a rotor winding, a field controller, associated with the rotor winding, for regulating the output voltage of the generator, and a downstream power converter having controllable switching elements. To reduce the voltage ripple, the output voltage of the generator is regulated on the stator side by appropriately controlling the switching elements of the power converter.

  • Publication number: 20130278055
Abstract: A motor vehicle electrical system includes at least one first subsystem and one second subsystem having different voltage levels. The first subsystem has a generator system, which is designed to supply the first subsystem with a first subsystem voltage, the generator system having an electrically excited generator including an exciter winding and a generator governor for controlling the exciter winding. The exciter winding is connected to the second subsystem and supplied with a second subsystem voltage from the second subsystem.

  • Publication number: 20130049460
Abstract: A method for preventing overvoltages in an electrical system of a motor vehicle is provided. The electrical system has as voltages sources an electric machine coupled to an internal combustion engine and a motor vehicle battery. The electric machine has a stator winding, a rotor winding and a field regulator assigned to the rotor winding for controlling a field current flowing through the rotor winding. The voltage generated by the electric machine is limited to an upper voltage threshold value if (i) a rotational speed corresponding to the rotational speed of the electric machine is below a rotational speed threshold value, and (ii) a temperature corresponding to the temperature of the motor vehicle battery is below a temperature threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20120281446
Abstract: In a method for reducing load dump overvoltages during operation of a synchronous rectifier for a polyphase alternating current having a number of inputs which correspond to the number of alternating current phases of the alternating current, and having at least two outputs for providing a direct current, an alternating current phase is connected to each of the inputs, and each of the inputs are electrically optionally connected via active switching elements to either the first or the second output in accordance with a control unit.

  • Publication number: 20120105019
Abstract: A regulating device for regulating the output voltage of a generator; in particular a vehicle generator is described. To improve protection of the voltage regulation from failure, for normal operation it is proposed to perform the regulation using a main regulator which is implemented as software in a control unit, and in the event of a malfunction of the main regulator, to perform the regulation using an auxiliary regulator.
