  • Patent number: 5643850
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing a metallic catalyst layer or coating which serves for effectuating the removal of hydrogen from a gas mixture containing hydrogen and oxygen. The catalyst layer itself which is porous, comprises a metal, such as palladium (Pd) or platinum (Pt), or alloys of these metals, which catalytically influence the oxidation of hydrogen. The metal or the metal alloy is applied as a catalyst layer or coating onto a carrier material or substrate by either plasma spraying or flame spraying together with a jet of an inert gas. The present invention also provides a catalyst through the intermediary of a catalyst layer which is produced in accordance with the process of the instant invention.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 17, 1995
Date of Patent: July 1, 1997
Assignees: Forschungszentrum Julich GmbH, Gesellschaft fur Reaktorsicherheit
Inventors: Amiya Kumar Chakraborty, Jurgen Rohde, Karl-Heinz Klatt, deceased, Helmut Wenzl, Ralf Konrad, deceased, Tatjana Konrad

  • Patent number: 5198405
Abstract: A catalyst for the removal or elimination of hydrogen from an atmosphere containing hydrogen, oxygen and steam. The catalyst consists of a metal or a corresponding alloy which influences the oxidation of the hydrogen, and which is applied onto a substrate material as a catalyst layer. The catalyst layer is applied onto the substrate which is formed from plate or sheet metal, fabric, mesh or granulate and consists of a support material which will regard to its expansion under a temperature change is compatible with the catalyst layer and is corrosion-resistance of the substrate material prevents the oxidation thereof in the presence of steam.

  • Patent number: 5181845
Abstract: An arrangement for the avoidance of a deposition of a fatty substance, such as liquid lubricant or grease possessing high viscosity which is carried along with steam during a combustion of hydrogen from a gas mixture containing hydrogen, oxygen and steam, through the intermediary of catalytic igniters.

  • Patent number: 4992407
Abstract: A catalytically acting system of metal layers for the removal or elimination of hydrogen from a gas mixture, which also contains hydrogen and oxygen. The system of metal layers possesses a surface layer which faces the gas mixture, and which is constituted of a PdNiCu alloy and which acts as a catalyst during the oxidation of the hydrogen. The surface layer is connected with or bonded to a carrier consisting of a heat-conductive material.
