  • Patent number: 4062995
Abstract: A highly elastic and easily stretchable permanently shaped reticular web of an elastomeric and thermoplastic film forming composition which comprises a thermoplastic elastomeric component consisting essentially of linear or radial A-B-A block copolymers or mixtures of these linear or radial A-B-A block copolymers with simple A-B block copolymers. A resin component also may be included.

    Filed: June 23, 1976
Date of Patent: December 13, 1977
    Assignee: Johnson & Johnson
    Inventor: Ralf Korpman
  • Patent number: 4028292
Abstract: A thermoplastic hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesive composition which is resistant to heat deterioration at elevated temperatures and, therefore, may be melted and maintained hot and ready for coating for extended periods of time without detracting from the properties of the adhesive. The composition is based upon a linear or radial A-B-A block copolymer and a mixture of solid and liquid tackifier resins and contains a heat stabilizing component which comprises an oil-soluble, heat-reactive phenol formaldehyde resin and a suitable antioxidant which preferably consists predominantly of a metal dithiocarbamate.

  • Patent number: 4024312
Abstract: A highly conformable adhesive tape which comprises a highly extensible and elastic backing film laminated with an adhesive layer to form the tape. The adhesive is a normally tacky and pressure-sensitive elastomeric adhesive coated on at least one of the film surfaces. The film possesses a lengthwise elongation to break of at least about 200 percent, and a 50 percent rubber modulus of not above about 2,000 lbs./sq. inch. The tape is easily stretchable and normally may be removed easily from an application surface by stretching the tape lengthwise in a direction substantially parallel to the surface. This characteristic is highly important in medical applications where painless removal is desirable.

  • Patent number: 3984509
Abstract: A process for extruding thermoplastic elastomeric film using a single screw extruder to extrude a particular type of a potentially sticky dry particulate mixture comprising relatively high molecular weight thermoplastic elastomer particles and relatively low molecular weight resin particles wherein the particulate mixture is fed starved, advanced axially, and prevented from sticking to the screw by mechanically displacing the mixture rotatively with respect to the screw in a prescribed portion of the feed section of the extruder, thereby preventing surging or uneven extrusion due to irregular feeding of the potentially sticky mixture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 1975
Date of Patent: October 5, 1976
    Assignee: Johnson & Johnson

  • Patent number: 3932328
Abstract: A hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesive composition and tape wherein the adhesive comprises an elastomeric component based on an elastomeric and thermoplastic A-B-A block copolymer wherein the B blocks are derived from isoprene and the A blocks are derived from styrene, and a unique tackifier component based on a blend of solid and liquid tackifier resins. The elastomeric and tackifier components are combined in specific proportions, as are the solid and liquid tackifier resins in the tackifier component. Preferred solid and liquid tackifier resins are disclosed.
