  • Patent number: 8506440
Abstract: The invention relates to a differential assembly in the form of a crown gear differential, more particularly for being used in the driveline of a motor vehicle. The differential assembly comprises a differential carrier (103) which is rotatingly drivable around an axis of rotation A; two sideshaft gears (112, 113) having crown gear teeth, which are rotatably held in the differential carrier (103) on the axis of rotation A and each comprise a circumferential supporting face (125, 126); differential gears (111) with spur gear teeth, which rotate jointly with the differential carrier (103) around the axis of rotation A and which engage the teeth of the sideshaft gears (112, 113) and each comprise a circumferential contact face (127); wherein the differential gears (111) are supported by means of their contact faces (127) against the supporting faces (125, 126) of the sideshaft gears (112, 113) towards the axis or rotation A.

  • Patent number: 8157692
Abstract: The invention relates to a differential assembly in the form of a crown gear differential, more particularly for being used in the driveline of a motor vehicle. The differential assembly comprises a differential carrier (3) which is produced in one piece, which is rotatingly drivable around an axis of rotation A and which, in a casing portion (26), comprises two radial openings for mounting sideshaft gears (15, 16) and differential gears (14). Per opening (20), there is provided a bearing disc (19) which is inserted into said opening (20) and which comprises a central bore (30) in which there is held a journal end (28) of a bearing journal (27) for a differential gear (14).

  • Patent number: 8152680
Abstract: A differential assembly is described, in the form of a crown differential for use in a driveline of a motor vehicle. The differential assembly comprises a one-piece differential carrier which is rotatably drivable around an axis of rotation and, in a casing portion, comprises no more than two identical openings for mounting sideshaft gears rotatably held in the differential carrier on the axis of rotation, as well as differential gears, which rotate jointly with the differential carrier around the axis of rotation and engage the teeth of the sideshaft gears. With reference to a longitudinal central plane, the openings are arranged so as to be mirror-symmetrical and comprise an axial length corresponding at least to the diameter of the differential gears, and a greatest circumferential extension which, in a radial view, corresponds at least to the diameter of the sideshaft gears.

  • Publication number: 20100075795
Abstract: The invention relates to a crown gear (2) which can engage a spur gear (201 ), and to a differential assembly (25) in the form of a crown gear differential for the driveline of a motor vehicle. The crown gear (2) comprises an annular toothing portion (3) forming a crown toothing (6), and a hub (4) axially projecting beyond the crown toothing (6). Between the crown toothing (6) and the hub (4) there are formed transition portions (12) which adjoin addendum lines (8) of the crown toothing (6) and change into the hub (4).

The differential assembly (2) comprises a one-piece differential carrier (3) which is rotatably drivable around an axis of rotation A and, in a casing portion (7), comprises no more than two identical openings (8, 9) for mounting sideshaft gears (11, 12) rotatably held in the differential carrier (3) on the axis of rotation A, as well as differential gears (13) which rotate jointly with the differential carrier (3) around the axis of rotation A and engage the teeth of the sideshaft gears (11, 12). With reference to a longitudinal central plane, the openings (8, 9) are arranged so as to be mirror-symmetrical and comprise an axial length L1 corresponding at least to the diameter of the differential gears, and a greatest circumferential extension L2 which, in a radial view, corresponds at least to the diameter of the sideshaft gears (11, 12).
