Publication number: 20060172425Abstract: A colored intercapsular buffer solution is used to reduce erroneous results from the absorption or carryover of small amounts of reagent R1 and/or R2 into the intercapsular buffer solution segment in the analytical line of a capsule chemistry liquid analysis system in an automated clinical analyzer. The absorption of small amounts of the regent R1 and/or R2 in the intercapsular buffer solution leads to erroneous results in the analysis of the test sample, S, because the R1 and/or R2 that is carried over and absorbed into the buffer does not react with test sample S. The R1/R2 carryover can be measured and determined by monitoring the absorbance of the colored buffer solution, wherein the change in absorbance can be measured and compared to a reference value. The sample is automatically retested if an unacceptable change in absorbance occurs.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 1, 2005Publication date: August 3, 2006Applicant: BAYER HEALTHCARE, LLCInventors: Ralf Neigl, Michael Sommer, Bronislaw Czech, Horst Berneth, Alan Toth, Josef-Walter Stawitz

Publication number: 20060110831Abstract: This invention significantly reduces the frequency of hydraulic failure in the analytical line of a capsule chemistry sample liquid analysis system which can occur when the reagents required for the specific analytical test have an imperfect merger with the sample aliquot reagent in the vanish zone of the analytical line. It has been found that the dynamic surface tension of the sample aliquot reagent and the analytical reagent influence the merging process. It has also been found that optimum merging of these reagent capsules in the vanish zone can be obtained when the dynamic surface tension of the sample aliquot reagent and analytical reagent is different.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 24, 2004Publication date: May 25, 2006Applicant: BAYER HEALTHCARE, LLCInventors: Johan Kijlstra, Dieter Ruehle, Ralf Neigl, Paul Gherson, Germaine Tarcu

Patent number: 6731433Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for generating light signals, in particular traffic lights. The device according to the invention contains a housing with at least one opening, which is closed by a plate, the absorption of which can be controlled electrically, there being located in the interior of the housing behind the opening a diffuser element, which reflects incident light through the plate. Preferred switched states of the plate are either black (absorption over the entire spectral region of visible light) and colored transparent (slight absorption in specific spectral regions) or transparent (no absorption over the entire spectral region of visible light). The device according to the invention is used to generate light signals by virtue of the fact that the ambient light strikes the plate and, depending on switched state, is absorbed entirely, partially or not at all by the plate.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2001Date of Patent: May 4, 2004Assignee: Bayer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Wolfgang Jacobsen, Ralf Neigl, Horst Berneth
