  • Patent number: 7785519
Abstract: A mould for moulding braking bands with ventilation ducts with the use of composite material and, in particular, of C/SiC ceramic material, comprises two half-moulds with respective impression surfaces which face one another and lie perpendicular to an axis of symmetry and which, together with outer and inner cylindrical walls, define a moulding cavity in the shape of the braking band to be moulded. • Patent number: 7134476
Abstract: A process for the production of a braking band having ventilation ducts comprises the steps of a) moulding a core of metallic material, b) inserting the core in a mould, in a central position, c) filling the mould with at least two layers of material which are to form the braking band, in a manner such that the core is “sandwiched” between the at least two layers, d) performing a first heating of the mould to a temperature such as to bring about hardening of the at least two layers until the at least two layers adopt a three-dimensional structure, e) subjecting the semi-finished product produced in step d) to a second heating to a temperature such as to bring about fusion of the metallic material of the core, and f) collecting the molten core.

  • Patent number: 6802403
Abstract: A disk brake disk comprises a braking band for cooperating with brake calipers in order to exert a braking effect on a vehicle. The braking band of one embodiment comprises a shaped body which extends about an axis of symmetry and is defined laterally by braking surfaces, and the shaped body is made of a composite material which, according to one embodiment, is produced by causing a mixture comprising bundles of filaments constituted substantially by carbon, arranged randomly and having dimensions no greater than 30 mm, to interact with silicon at a temperature high enough to bring about fusion of the silicon. According to this embodiment, the shaped body has a plurality of reinforcing fibers incorporated in the shaped body and extend around the shape fo the shaped body in a manner such as to deter the propagation of cracks.

  • Patent number: 6797094
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the production of a braking band for a brake disk with venting passages and to a braking band which can be produced by the process. The process comprises the following steps: molding a core (200) of the braking band in a suitable mold (1), molding two covers (8) onto the core in a further suitable mold (101) so as to form a semi-finished product having a “sandwich” structure, firing the semi-finished product so as to produce a predetermined porosity of the covers, firing the semi-finished product further, in the presence of silicon, at a temperature such as substantially to bring about fusion of the silicon and its infiltration into the covers.
