    Abstract: A vehicle seat (1), in particular a sports seat, has a seat (3), a backrest (4) and a side airbag module (14). A backrest shell (6) is the supporting structure of the backrest (4). A cover (20) is attached to the unupholstered and substantially uncovered outer side of the backrest shell (6). The side airbag module (14) is covered by the cover (20), and the cover (20) releases the side airbag module (14) when the side airbag module (14) is activated in response to a crash.
