  • Publication number: 20230026983
Abstract: Polymeric mist control materials, methods of forming polymeric mist control materials, and methods of using such materials for mist control are provided. The polymeric mist control additives are formed of molecules comprised predominantly of monomers that confer high solubility in fuel and include associative groups that attract each other in donor-acceptor manner, and are incorporated such that multiple associative groups are in close proximity (“clusters”), such that the clusters are separated by very long non-associative sequences.

  • Patent number: 9416029
Abstract: A biocidal water purification apparatus exposes water to radiation to eliminate viable species. A housing forms a path for water to flow from an inlet to an outlet along a flow path through a treatment zone at which the water is subjected to radiation from a source of radiation, such as beta particles from strontium-90. The exposure to radiation is enhanced using a narrow water flow path lined with the source, especially on oppositely interleaved plates with triangular cross sections, spaced by about 0.25 inch to produce an elongated zigzag path traversed by the water, for example by vertical gravity feed. Additional aspects include other forms of radiation and pre- and post-treatment water treatment or filtration stages and alternatives for continuous, batch and timed-residence water flow management.

  • Patent number: 8756485
Abstract: Processing a received signal includes receiving a code word that is different from an expected code word, determining, at least in part using a logic circuit, whether the difference between the received code word and the expected code word is acceptable based at least in part on one or more bit differences, and in the event it is determined that the difference is unacceptable, providing an indication of an error.

  • Publication number: 20030196666
Abstract: This invention is a device that is intended to address the problem of patient asphyxiation of intubated patients resulting from a disconnection of the endotracheal tube and ventilator tubing. The proposed device is a t-shaped piece of tubing that is firmly attached such that its two ends which are not covered (the so-called parallel cylinder) are connected to the endotracheal tube and ventilator tubing, forming a conduit between these tubes. Running perpendicular to this parallel cylinder is the ‘t’ component of the tubing on which are mounted impermeable discs that serve as spring-loaded valves that open when the air pressure within the ventilation system exceeds the desired level, thus allowing air to flow into the lower pressure surrounding environment and dissipate the pressure within the ventilation system.

  • Publication number: 20030171657
Abstract: The process by which a clinician selects what s/he thinks is the best medication for a patient with a given disease is at best an estimation of the myriad of risks and benefits each may have, and at worst a subjective guess. Because of burgeoning classes of medications and their members, the associated risks and benefits of each class and medication, and the addition of external medical guidelines, this task is becoming very difficult and at times dangerous. We describe a process that allows one to approach this problem in a systematic, quantitatively objective manner and include any number of facts and decision rules without relying solely on complex algorithms. The process easily accommodates fact revisions without redesigning algorithms, thus updates quickly. Although intuitive, the process would be very tedious to do manually but lends itself well to automated computations and medical software.

  • Patent number: 5753111
Abstract: A quick disconnect filter assembly and manifold assembly for use in a photographic processor having a recirculating system designed for receiving a filter assembly in line. The filter assembly comprising: a housing having an internal chamber, a chamber inlet for allowing processing fluid to flow into the internal chamber and an chamber outlet for allowing processing solution to flow out of the internal chamber. The housing has a quick disconnect valve for allowing quick connection and disconnecting of the filter assembly with the recirculating system without any substantial loss of fluid. The manifold assembly comprising: a body having an inlet port and an outlet port and a fluid connecting passage therethrough connecting the inlet to the outlet. A wall member is provided for dividing the connecting passage into a first receiving section and an outer delivery section.

  • Patent number: 5689748
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing a photosensitive material. The apparatus includes at least one processing section and a replenishment system for delivering replenishment solution contained within a container to the processing section. The replenishment system including a single device for withdrawing replenishment solution from the container and for monitoring the level of the replenishment solution contained in the container. The container is made of a material that is electrically non-conductive. A pair of spaced electrically conductive members are provided within the container. One of the members has a passageway for allowing withdrawal of the replenishment solution from the container and has a terminal end which extends below the other member within the container. An AC current is applied to the pair of spaced members and the AC current is monitored with a level sensing circuit.

  • Patent number: 5254076
Abstract: A method for mixing and separating immiscible liquid salts and liquid metals in a centrifugal contractor. The method includes introducing the liquids into an annular mixing zone and intensely mixing the liquids using vertical vanes attached to a rotor cooperating with vertical baffles, a horizontal baffle, and bottom vanes attached to the contactor housing. The liquids enter the contactor in the range of 700-800 degrees Celsius. The liquids are separated in the rotor into a dense phase and a light phase which are discharged from the contactor.

  • Patent number: 4221824
Abstract: A method and composition for enameling ferrous objects which eliminates the necessity of pickling and nickel coating the ferrous object prior to enameling. The ferrous surface is merely cleaned and then a reactive fritted coating is applied to the clean surface. The chemical and physical properties of the reactive coating are such that the coating fuses at a relatively low temperature to provide a fused coating which chemically etches the underlying ferrous surface to provide a good bond between the two. The reactive coating should contain at least 5% of one or more adhesion promoting oxides, and at least 1% of the 5% mentioned consists of cupric oxide. A cover coat of a conventional frit may be applied over the reactive coating. During firing, the reactive coat melts first and bonds itself to the underlying ferrous surface, whereupon the cover coat fuses and forms the finished procelain enamel coating.

  • Patent number: H914
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for supporting one or more contactor stages used to remove radioactive materials from aqueous solutions. The contactor stages include a housing having an internal rotor, a motor secured to the top of the housing for rotating the rotor, and a drain in the bottom of the housing. The support apparatus includes two or more vertical members each secured to a ground support that is horizontal and perpendicular to the frame member, and a horizontally disposed frame member. The frame member may be any suitable shape, but is preferably a rectangular tube having substantially flat, spaced top and bottom surfaces separated by substantially vertical side surfaces. The top and bottom surfaces each have an opening through which the contactor housing is secured so that the motor is above the frame and the drain is below the frame during use.
