Abstract: The anchoring device of the invention is one which buries itself vertically nto the water bed material. In its common form the anchoring device is of generally cylindrical form and includes a centrally located suction passageway and fluidizing water outlets located in the general region of the lower open end of the suction passageway whereby in use and with suction applied to the suction passageway and fluidizing water made available through the fluidizing water outlets the bed material from immediately beneath the anchoring device is pumped through the body of the anchoring device and discharged above it.

Abstract: The invention concerns an apparatus for establishing an anchorage in the of a liquid. The apparatus comprises essentially a substantially hollow structure into which solids from the liquid bed are induced as solids in liquid suspension. When the apparatus is being used as an anchoring device the design is such that as solids from the liquid bed are induced into the substantially hollow structure they fill or partially fill the structure which then proceeds to bury itself into the liquid bed thereby establishing an anchorage.

The apparatus comprises essentially a substantially hollow structure into which solids from the liquid bed are induced as solids in liquid suspension. In the case of the apparatus being used for the collection of solids the structure is raised to the surface of the liquid for the solids to be harvested. When the apparatus is being used as an anchoring device the design is modified such that as solids from the liquid bed are induced into the substantially hollow structure they fill or partially fill the structure when then proceeds to bury itself into the liquid bed thereby establishing an anchorage.
