  • Publication number: 20230243727
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of determining whether a host has an infection. The method comprises obtaining measured values comprising a number of leukocytes and a number of a first type of leukocytes in a blood sample from the host, and comparing the measured values with one or more stored threshold value(s) to determine whether the host has said infection.

  • Publication number: 20050080302
Abstract: A liquid phase process is disclosed for producing halogenated alkane adducts of the formula CAR1R2CBR3R4 (where A, B, R1, R2, R3, and R4 are as defined in the specification) which involves contacting a corresponding halogenated alkane, AB, with a corresponding olefin, CR1R2?CR3R4 in a dinitrile or cyclic carbonate ester solvent which divides the reaction mixture into two liquid phases and in the presence of a catalyst system containing (i) at least one catalyst selected from monovalent and divalent copper; and optionally (ii) a promoter selected from aromatic or aliphatic heterocyclic compounds which contain at least one carbon-nitrogen double bond in the heterocyclic ring. When hydrochlorofluorocarbons are formed, the chlorine content may be reduced by reacting the hydrochlorofluorocarbons with HF. New compounds disclosed include CF3CF2CCl2CH2CCl3, CF3CCl2CH2CH2Cl and CF3CCl2CH2CHClF. These compounds are useful as intermediates for producing hydrofluorocarbons.

  • Patent number: 5204260
Abstract: Soilborne rhizosphere-incompetent biocontrol agents can be converted into rhizosphere-competent agents by exposing them to a mutagenic agent and then screening the exposed rhizosphere-incompetent agent for a strain showing increased cellulase production. The increased cellulase production characteristic serves to convert the originally rhizosphere-incompetent agent into one which is rhizosphere-competent. Seeds of plants to be protected against various diseases can then be treated with the rhizosphere-competent strain. The roots of the plant, as well as its original seed, are protected by biocontrol agents produced by the disclosed process.

  • Patent number: 5192686
Abstract: A rhizosphere-competent Trichoderma polysporum, (ATCC 20852) and a rhizosphere-competent Trichoderma viride (ATCC 20853) are described. They are respectively, mutants of rhizosphere-incompetent Trichoderma polysporum ATCC 20475 and rhizosphere-incompetent Trichoderma viride ATCC 20476. The rhixosphere-competent strains are particularly effective biocontrol agents for plant and/or tree diseases associated with various fungi e.g., Pythium spp., Sclerotium, spp., Rhizoctonia solani and basidiomycetes such as Chondrostereumm purpureum.

  • Patent number: 4909669
Abstract: A pipeline joint protector which comprises a sheet of high density plastic material which is adapted to encircle the exposed end portions of abutting lengths of pipe which are wrapped or covered with concrete weight coating substantially throughout their lengths with only short end sections of the pipe exposed. The pipeline protector extends radially outwardly from the central pipe to approximately the diameter of the weight coat material and substantially spans the space between adjacent portions of weight coat material on the abutting joints of pipe welded together to form the pipe joint. The pipe joint protector includes high density plastic or elastomeric rubber material which substantially fills the lower one half of the annular space between the plastic sheet and pipe between adjacent weight coat sections.

  • Patent number: 4871394
Abstract: Sintered copper friction facing suitable for operation in oil and quieter in operation than current facing of this type has a void volume not less than 30% of the total volume. It can be made by employing, as the copper to form the facing matrix, copper powder which is in dendritic form and of apparent density not greater than 1.3 gram/cm.sup.3.

  • Patent number: 4631209
Abstract: In a method of making asbestos-free friction facing material in the form of a water-laid sheet of cellulosic fibres, in which are distributed friction-imparting particles and particles of friction-modifier, the sheet containing a thermosetting phenolic resin which after curing binds the ingredients firmly together, the thermosetting phenolic resin is included in emulsified form in the aqueous suspension of ingredients from which the water-laid sheet is prepared. This leads to a product of more consistent friction performance than is obtained by post-sheeting impregnation with thermosetting phenolic resin.

  • Patent number: 4574083
Abstract: Novel isolates of Pythium are provided which are antagonistic to indigenous plant pathogenic species of Pythium ultimum from soil. The isolates suppress the growth of P. ultimum when added to soil and are particularly useful to protect seedlings from damping-off disease caused by P. ultimum.

  • Patent number: 4145031
Abstract: Each of a plurality of fence posts includes an upright supported on a base plate. Rails, having orthogonally apertured ends for penetratingly receiving the uprights, interconnect adjacent posts and define the fence. The vertical spacing between adjacent rails is determined by spacers mounted upon the uprights intermediate the apertured ends of proximate rails. Other spacers, having one-half of a hinge or one part of a two part lock mechanism, cooperate with corresponding elements extending from a gate to support and latch the gate. A detachably attached overhead post and lintel unit engages the uprights of the posts defining a gate way to lend structural integrity to the fence sections terminating at the gate way.
