Publication number: 20020093203Abstract: A detent system particularly suitable for pivotal automotive windows, but not limited to such use, wherein the components are molded of a synthetic material and wherein a first member pivotally supports a second member and the second member is pivotally positioned between detent maintained positions. The detent action is achieved by shaping and sizing the relative members such that deformation between the relative members occurs during relative rotation such that the changing resistance to relative rotation, because of the interlocking configuration of the members, a detent action is achieved.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2001Publication date: July 18, 2002Inventor: Ralph D. Patent number: 6257189Abstract: A valve lifter guide for internal combustion engines for preventing rotation of the valve lifters. The guide consists of an elongated support which is affixed to an internal combustion engine block, and spaced resilient cantilever supported fingers extending from the support have a free end which engages an orientation flat surface on the valve lifter and prevents valve lifter rotation. The resiliency of the fingers simplifies installation of the guide and assures engagement of the guide fingers with the lifter flat surface. An embodiment includes alignment features to facilitate assembly of the valve push rods.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2000Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Assignee: TMJ Properties, L.L.C.Inventors: Ralph D. Moretz, Mark A. Herioux

Patent number: 6013000Abstract: A chain guide for maintaining the tension within roller chains such as used in timing systems for internal combustion engines which directly engages the chain to maintain the proper tension. The chain guide is formed of a polymeric synthetic material reinforced with carbon fiber to prevent contamination of the engine lubricants. The chain guide may be formed as a single one piece synthetic construction, or may consist of a synthetic portion having the wear surface defined thereon and a rigid backing member for support.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1998Date of Patent: January 11, 2000Assignee: TMJ Properties, L.L.C.Inventor: Ralph D. Patent number: 5947852Abstract: A rotary polymeric torque transfer device such as a vehicle timing chain sprocket wherein the sprocket comprises a polymeric body having homogeneous teeth and torque is transferred to the body by a metal non-insert drive member which includes an inner portion defining a hub, a central portion for receiving fasteners for mounting the sprocket upon shaft support structure, and the drive member outer portion includes torque drive elements cooperating with shoulders defined on the polymeric body radially spaced from the body axis of rotation whereby the transfer of torque between the drive member and the polymeric body occurs adjacent the body periphery radially spaced from the rotation axis to increase the length of the moment arm and reduce the torque forces transmitted between the drive member and the polymeric body to prevent excessive stress and wear between these components.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1998Date of Patent: September 7, 1999Assignee: TMJ Properties, L.L.C.Inventor: Ralph D. Patent number: 5845749Abstract: A linear motion absorber for damping linear movement utilizing a cylinder having a reciprocal piston located therein. The cylinder and piston are molded of synthetic plastic and the piston is of an extended length and a diameter slightly less than the inner diameter of the cylinder as to be self aligning therewith and includes a homogeneous annular lip seal to produce unidirectional sealing. The piston stem or rod is also of a synthetic plastic material and in the rigid stem embodiment homogeneously extends from the piston. The piston rod may also consist of a flexible synthetic strand attached to the piston for transmitting tension forces, and a compression spring within the cylinder acting upon the piston will position the piston to a retracted position. The open end of the cylinder is sealed by a removable cap entirely formed of a synthetic plastic material which may be readily affixed to the cylinder to produce a closed circuit during damping.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1995Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignee: TMJ Properties, L.L.C.Inventors: Ralph D. Moretz, William D. Solomon, Ronald L. Johncox

Patent number: 5503452Abstract: A vehicle tilt-out window with a resilient seal insert includes an annular frame which is bonded to the vehicle window opening. The frame includes a resilient double lip seal which is molded into a recess formed in the frame and the lip seal cooperates with a glass panel mounted upon the frame by homogeneous hinge tabs extending from the frame permitting the glass panel to be tilted relative to the frame for ventilation purposes and an articulated pivoting latch mounted to a homogeneous latch base locks the glass panel against the lip seal.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1994Date of Patent: April 2, 1996Assignees: Mid-American Products, Inc., Guardian Industries Corp.Inventors: Ralph D. Moretz, Richard D. Lopez, Jerry L. Wolf, Michael P. Koval

Patent number: 5395041Abstract: An internal combustion engine fitting containing a thermostatically controlled valve regulating the flow therethrough is formed by two parts interconnectable by relative rotation through a bayonet type connection. The bayonet connection utilizes two stages wherein the first stage maintains the parts connected but a bypass passage defined between the parts permits the flow of coolant through the fitting around the valve to initially permit the engine coolant system to be filled. After the coolant system is filled, the fitting parts are rotated to a final closed position sealing the bypass passage permitting the thermostatic valve to control flow through the fitting during normal engine operation. The fitting parts remain sealed to the atmosphere during both stages of interconnection.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1993Date of Patent: March 7, 1995Assignee: Mid-American Products, Inc.Inventor: Ralph D. Moretz, Jr.

Patent number: 5088455Abstract: The invention pertains to a guide for roller valve lifters for internal combustion engines which prevents rotation of the valve lifters. The guide is molded of a synthetic polymeric material to define sockets receiving the ends of the valve lifters having flats defined thereon. The sockets of the guide are partially defined by cantilever supported fingers engaging the valve lifter flats, preferably with zero clearance, whereby the guide prevents rotation of the valve lifter about its axis.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1991Date of Patent: February 18, 1992Assignee: Mid-American Products, Inc.Inventor: Ralph D.
