  • Patent number: 5688385
Abstract: A process is described for the production of chlorine directly at the site where it is intended to be used and at the required rate. Hazards associated with the transport and storage of large quantities of liquefied chlorine under pressure are thus eliminated. The chlorine is produced electrochemically from a chloride containing electrolyte which is maintained at a pH no higher than 6, where the chlorine compounds are present as chloride and hypochlorous acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 22, 1996
Date of Patent: November 18, 1997
    Assignee: Pepcon Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Raymond C. Rhees, Ralph E. Behrens, Kathy J. Reid, Lowell B. Morgan
