Abstract: Apparatus for coupling an ultrasonic energy transducer to a target object, such as a human patient, through an energy transmitting liquid. The coupling apparatus comprises an open top container for holding the energy transmitting liquid. The transducer extends through the open container top for immersion below the surface of the liquid and for selective movement relative to the container. A support member is provided for holding the container in contact with the patient. The support member has a ring for rotatably receiving and supporting the container. The ultrasonic wave output from the transducer may be directed to different portions of the patient by selective rotation of the container and/or by repositioning the transducer within the container.
