  • Patent number: 8390877
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for exporting metadata from an image capture device, for example a scanner, preferably using a standard application programming interface. The metadata may be associated with a pixel, a page, or a region/object of the image, and could be used by an application, for example, to improve the quality of the image when printed or to facilitate the conversion from a single layer of image information to multi-mask mixed raster content (MRC).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 25, 2007
Date of Patent: March 5, 2013
    Assignee: Xerox Corporation
Inventors: Rudolph A. Rodrigues, Ralph H. Huedepohl, Matthew A. Ippolito, Todd W. Glatz, Kenneth M. Cigna, Sr., David B. Baum, Gene M. Nitschke

  • Patent number: 7430059
Abstract: A system and method for scanning and reprocessing an image, including capturing and storing scanned image data in a memory of an image scanner; processing the scanned image data in accordance with at least one predetermined image parameter; transmitting the processed image data to an image capture device control system; transmitting the processed image data on a display device; selecting at least on selectable image parameter; reprocessing the scanned image data stored in the memory in accordance with the at least one selected image parameter.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 24, 2004
Date of Patent: September 30, 2008
    Assignee: Xerox Corporation

  • Patent number: 6753987
Abstract: Contrast and brightness adjustments can be made to a system tone reproduction curve. These contrast and brightness adjustments can be made, for example, by user, via a user input device, or alternatively, automatically detected, based on an image analysis routine. By determining one or more generic tone reproduction curves, and interpolating these tone reproduction curves with the system tone reproduction curve, a new, adjusted tone reproduction curve is produced. This allows for a determination of the adjusted system tone reproduction curve as opposed to calculating and restoring the families of system tone reproduction curves adjusted for all the possible combinations of contrast and brightness.

  • Patent number: 6744536
Abstract: A system and method for determining the registration parameters necessary for registration or edge detection processing to enable the flexibility of changing the color of backing to suit a given application. The method includes scanning the backing surface to obtain at least two sets of gray level values; (b) determining an average gray level for each of the two color channels; (c) selecting a registration channel based on the average gray level; (d) determining a gray level deviation for the registration channel; and (e) determining registration parameters based on the average gray level and the gray level deviation of the registration channel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 22, 2001
Date of Patent: June 1, 2004
    Assignee: Xerox Corporation
Inventors: Wayne A. Buchar, Ramesh Nagarajan, Ralph H. Huedepohl, Wooi L. Yeoh, Robert P. Herloski, Thomas C. McGraw, William M. Harney, Jeffrey L. Baniak
