Publication number: 20240042165Abstract: A one-piece catheter (30) and manufacturing method therefor are disclosed. The catheter (30) includes a catheter tube (33) and an adapter (31). The catheter catheter tube (33) includes a tip (331) at one end and an end portion (332) at another other end. The adapter (31) can be configured for receiving a septum (402). The adapter (31) includes a narrow opening. The end portion (332) of the catheter tube (33) is connected to the adapter (31) at the narrow opening for fluid communication between the catheter tube (33) and the adapter (31). The catheter tube (33) and adapter (31) are formed as a one-piece element that is preferably injection molded in a single-shot process. Additional elements, such as one or more retention tabs (313) for attaching to a base can be formed on the catheter (30). The one-piece catheter (30) can be made by a single-shot injection molding process. Additional structures, such as a base can be attached to the catheter (30) by a second-shot injection molding process.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 19, 2023Publication date: February 8, 2024Applicant: Becton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Ralph Lee SONDEREGGER, Weston Finch HARDING

Publication number: 20190038877Abstract: A catheter assembly and method for introducing a needle to positioning a catheter, such as a peripheral IV catheter into a patient includes piercing a vein with a needle that extends from the distal end of the catheter. The needle has a distal tip with a configuration that pierces the vein at an angle to penetrate a vein with a reduced incidence of transfixing, injury of the inner surface of the vein or inadvertently passing through side wall of the vein. The distal tip of the needle is introduced into the lumen of the vein at an incline where the distal tip is spaced from an inner surface of the vein and a bevel surface of the distal tip faces the inner surface of the vein opposite the entry point of the needle into the vein. A catheter on the needle is advanced from the distal tip of the needle into the lumen of the vein.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2018Publication date: February 7, 2019Inventors: Shawn Ray ISAACSON, Weston Finch HARDING, Jeffrey O'BRYAN, Ralph Lee SONDEREGGER

Publication number: 20190022308Abstract: An insulin infusion set (30) for use with an inserter (40) is disclosed. The infusion set (30) includes an extension set (50). The extension set (50) includes a housing (70), a base (90) and a latching device (82). The base (90) houses a base septum (120) and an infusion cannula (42). The latching device (82) releasably attaches the housing (70) to the base. When the housing (70) is attached to the base (90), a part of the housing (70) extends into and opens the base septum (120).Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2018Publication date: January 24, 2019Applicant: Becton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Ralph Lee Sonderegger, Victor Isaac Politis
