The process has the following steps: a) continuously feeding 2,2-bis(3,4-dimethylphenyl)hexafluoropropane and aqueous nitric acid into a reactor cell and b) heating the mixture to a temperature sufficient to effect reaction between the 2,2-bis(3,4-dimethylphenyl)hexafluoropropane and the nitric acid.
