  • Patent number: 6439186
Abstract: A mechanical oil filtration and oil flow re-direction system for a hydraulically actuated valve lifter. Pressurized oil is directed to the lifter through a series of controlled clearance passages prior to gaining access to the internal cavity of the lifter. Once inside the lifter, the oil is deflected off of an insert that directs the oil towards the upper end of the lifter and the push rod seat. The oil flow is then directed downwards into an oil deflector supply hole and into the internal cavity of the lifter and the chamber containing the lifter check ball and seat. In use, the system restricts particulates from the lifter, and re-directs particulates that do access the lifter to pre-determined locations within the lifter to minimize operational impairment of the lifter from particulate contamination.

  • Patent number: 6289765
Abstract: Retention of a roller follower shaft in a follower body is provided by keyed ends formed by flats on the shaft with which a follower roller forms an assembly, together with additional bearings if needed. Slots are provided extending from shaft bore openings through spaced arms of the body to distal ends of the arms. The roller follower assembly is inserted in a pocket between the arms by sliding the keyed ends of the shaft through the slots of the arms to axially align the shaft with the shaft openings. The shaft is then turned about 90 degrees in the openings in which a slight interference fit retains the shaft against lateral motion.

  • Patent number: 5931133
Abstract: A cam follower roller bearing shaft is restrained against lateral motion in shaft support bores of the follower body by plugging the bore ends with retainer plugs in or adjacent the ends of the bores. Soft metal or plastic bearing materials may be pressed or molded in the bore ends or in recesses in the follower body at the ends of the bores. Other forms of mechanical retention are disclosed. A fixture for pressing in plugs cut from plastic strips is also disclosed. Applications of the plugs in roller valve lifters, roller finger followers and rocker arm roller followers are disclosed.
