  • Patent number: 5609491
Abstract: An assembly for connecting inputs and outputs to a printed circuit board subassembly is disclosed. The assembly includes an electrical connector 2 that includes a housing 4 and a plurality of terminals 6 located in openings 28 extending between a mating face 22 and a rear face 24 on the housing 4. Both the terminals 6 and the openings 28 are C-shaped and adjacent terminals and openings are inverted. The terminals have a contact tab portion 12 for forming a separable connection with a mating connector 56 and a termination or weld tab section 14 for attachment to a conductor 8 joining each connector terminal 6 to a printed circuit board 10. The termination tabs 14 are located in a single row to facilitate the attachment of a wire 8 to each terminal 6 by a process such as the use of an ultrasonic bonding applicator 62.

  • Patent number: 5452948
Abstract: An electronically controlled hydraulic unit (10) for use in an anti-lock braking system in an automobile and a method of assembling a coil mounting subassembly are disclosed. The coil mounting assembly includes a wiring or printed circuit board (48, 148, 248) on which toroidal coils (16) are mounted with traces leading to pin terminals (46, 146, 246) to attach this wiring or printed circuit board subassembly to an electronic control board (56). Coils are soldered to this board in a conventional offline soldering operation. The coil wiring or printed circuit board is mounted to a peripheral housing frame (34, 134) and a peripheral seal (42, 142) is located between the wiring or printed circuit board and the housing frame. The printed circuit board serves as a sealing bulkhead when mounted between the electronic control board and a hydraulic pump subassembly.

  • Patent number: 4921437
Abstract: A sealed electrical connector assembly comprising an insert molded header, a sealed connector plug matable in an exterior header cavity and an unsealed connector plug matable in an interior header cavity is disclosed. Each connector plug incorporates a secondary lock and terminal position assurance. An outer housing cover forming a portion of the mating envelope at the forward end of the connector plugs can be secured to the forward section of the insulative housing only when a resilient latch, forming a primary latch, is in a fully seated position. If the latch is in the deflected or not fully seated position, an abutting ledge on the housing cover will engage the deflected latch to prevent assembly of the housing cover to the insulative housing.

  • Patent number: 4772234
Abstract: An electrical terminal has two arms which define a receptacle for a pin or post. At least one of the arms comprises a web extending to the pin-receiving end of the receptacle and which has sidewalls extending from its marginal side edge portions. A slot extends inwardly in the web from the pin-receiving end of the receptacle and divides the web into two sections, each of which consists of one of the sidewalls and the portion of the web extending from the sidewall to the slot. The opposed internal surfaces of the sidewalls are spaced apart by a distance less than the width of the pin so that when the pin is inserted, the two sections are each deflected and bear against the pin with contact forces. Each of the sections is elastically deformed by planar deformation of the sections away from each other in the plane of the web and also by torsional deformation. The resultant contact forces exerted on the pin are produced by the two modes of deflection and relatively high contact forces are achieved as a result.

  • Patent number: 4767350
Abstract: An electrical connector for interconnecting a plurality of signals comprises an assembly of a plug and receptacle. The plug includes a housing member having a cavity at its forward end defined by a peripheral wall and a cavity wall, and a rear wall. The housing further includes contact receiving apertures extending between the cavity wall and the rear wall. An insert is locked in place in the forward cavity, the adjacent wall of the insert having standoff feet to define a gap between the cavity wall and insert wall. The insert has apertures in alignment with the apertures in the housing. The apertures within the insert include a shoulder facing the rear wall of the insert. A contact insertable into the apertures in the housing and insert has a lance which is locatable in the gap between the cavity wall and insert wall to lock the contact in place. The receptacle has a right-angled configuration having pins extending from a mounting face for interconnection to a printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4697864
Abstract: A high density receptacle has a right-angled configuration having pins extending from a mounting face for interconnection to a printed circuit board. A second face is mountable to a bulkhead and has three rows of pins mounted in a cavity recessed from the second mounting face for interconnection to a matable plug having socket contacts. The contacts within the receptacle are disposed in three tiers, the contacts being bent around mandrels to form the right-angled bend. Below the mandrels is a contact locating plate having contact receiving slots in line with the contacts. The upper and lower row of contacts are laterally aligned with each other and with a first contact receiving slot. The first slot has two widths, and has a rib extending down along the edges of the slot. When the contacts are placed in the slot, the ribs interferingly hold the contacts in place.

  • Patent number: 4509710
Abstract: A cable clamp moulded in one piece from plastics material comprising first and second clamping limbs (11, 11') extending in side-by-side relation and joined at respective opposite ends by first and second tool bearing portions (12, 13). Each clamping limb (11, 11') comprising a rigid portion (14, 14') joined to the first tool bearing portion (12) by a web hinge (16 or 16') at one end of the limb (11 or 11') and joined by another web hinge (19 or 19') to a flexible wire engaging portion (15, 15') adjacent the second bearing portion (13) such that on urging the tool bearing portions (12, 13) together, the clamping limbs are changed from erect to collapsed clamping conditions with deformation of the wire engaging portions (15, 15') into clamping engagement with wires. A latching tongue 25 is received in a latching eye (36) to latch the cable clamp in the clamping condition.
