  • Patent number: 10228566
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are described herein related to the art of augmented reality type monitor virtualization. A monitor-virtualization system, such as a head-mountable device, an ophthalmic device or an intraocular implant, can render a virtual monitor in augmented reality. A liquid lens or an optical phased array can position the virtual monitor in space by optical means. A dimmable occlusion matrix can be additionally operated such as to make the image of the virtual monitor substantially opaque. A coordinator module can synchronize the activities of monitor positioning and occlusion masking. The virtual monitor can be anchored to real-world artifacts using bokode technology. Various dimming modes of the occlusion matrix reduce operator fatigue. The apparatus may operate in smart sunglass mode when the virtual monitor function is paused. The virtual monitor can be hidden or visualized differently when thresholds in terms of user geolocation or viewing angle are breached.

  • Patent number: 10218968
Abstract: A gaze contingent display technique for providing a human viewer with an enhanced three-dimensional experience not requiring stereoscopic viewing aids. Methods are shown which allow users to view plenoptic still images or plenoptic videos incorporating gaze-contingent refocusing operations in order to enhance spatial perception. Methods are also shown which allow the use of embedded markers in a plenoptic video feed signifying a change of scene incorporating initial depth plane settings for each such scene. Methods are also introduced which allow a novel mode of transitioning between different depth planes wherein the user's experience is optimized in such a way that these transitions trick the human eye into perceiving enhanced depth. This disclosure also introduces a system of a display device which comprises gaze-contingent refocusing capability in such a way that depth perception by the user is significantly enhanced compared to prior art.

  • Publication number: 20180367665
Abstract: Interaction with a handheld device is modified based upon the speed at which the handheld device is traveling, for example while being held in a passenger vehicle. If the handheld device appears to be moving faster than a pre-established threshold, a lockout flag indicates that interaction with the user must be modified. Then, the lockout flag is cleared only when the handheld device is held off at an angle and the user focuses gaze upon the display for a minimum amount of time. Once the lockout flag is cleared, interaction with the user returns to a normal state.

  • Patent number: 10121063
Abstract: A wink gesture based control technique for selecting, controlling and manipulating virtual objects and smart applications on a display using facial gestures of the user, in particular winking, blinking and squinting movements of the eyes. The wink gesture based control technique utilizes wink gestures of a user to select, control, and manipulate virtual objects on a display. A head mounted device is adapted to allow detection and classification of specific wink gestures. The head mounted device in some embodiments may also be adapted to recognize certain characteristics of the wink gestures, such as duration or amplitude, to allow enhanced navigation of a computer interface.

  • Publication number: 20180156715
Abstract: This disclosure relates to hollow fibre waveguide spectroscopic gas cells built using connectors and the method for making them. The connectors are used to construct gas cell end pieces which allow gas and light to enter the hollow fibre waveguide simultaneously thus creating a gas cell. The connectors comprise a window which intersects or is in close proximity to a junction of bores within the connector, the bores transmitting gas through the connector to or from the hollow fibre waveguide. Connectors may also be used to connect two sections of fibre together in order to produce longer gas cells which enhance the signal-to-noise ratio of spectroscopic measurements. The window, which is at least partially transparent at the wavelength of the light used for spectroscopic purposes, is affixed so as to maintain a gas tight seal for the gas cell.

  • Publication number: 20180156727
Abstract: An FI having an in-situ particle detector and a method for particle detection therein are provided. In one aspect, the FI includes a fan, a substrate support, a particle detector, and an exhaust outlet. The fan, substrate support, and particle detector are arranged such that, in operation, the fan directs air towards the exhaust outlet and over a substrate on the substrate support to create laminar flow. The particle detector, positioned downstream from the substrate support and upstream from the exhaust outlet, analyzes the air and detects particle concentration before the particles are exhausted. The collected particle detection data may be combined with data from other sensors in the FI and used to identify the source of particle contamination. The particle detector may also be incorporated into other system components, including but not limited to, a load-lock or buffer chamber to detect particle concentration therein.

  • Publication number: 20180116555
Abstract: A device (1) for determining the concentration of a gas component is configured with a radiation source (30) for radiating (31) light as a light emission in an infrared wavelength range. Two detector arrays (52, 62) with two detector elements (50, 60) are configured suitably for detecting the light emission generated by the radiation source (30) in two detector arrays (52, 62). Two filter elements (51, 61) are associated with the detector elements (50, 60). The two detector elements (50, 60) are oriented in relation to the radiation source, so that a range of overlap (65) is obtained due to the two detector arrays (52, 62). The range of overlap (65) causes attenuations in the propagation of light, which may be due to gas molecules or moisture (400). The attenuations in the propagation of light affect both detector elements (50, 60) and are compensated concerning the determination of the concentration.

  • Publication number: 20180120224
Abstract: A device (1) for determining the concentration of a gas component is configured with a radiation source (30) for emitting (31) a light radiation or heat radiation in an infrared wavelength range. A detector array (40) has at least two detector elements (50, 60), configured to detect the radiation generated by the radiation source (30), in an angular arrangement (52, 62) and with filter elements (51, 61). At least one of the two detector elements (50, 60) is oriented in an angular arrangement (52, 62) in relation to a vertical axis (32), so that a range of overlap (65) is obtained due to the angular arrangements (52, 62). The range of overlap (65) causes attenuations in the propagation of light, which attenuations may be due, for example, to gas molecules or moisture (400), affect both detector elements (50, 60) and are thus compensated concerning the concentration determination.

  • Publication number: 20170227791
Abstract: Apparatus are described herein related to augmenting human vision by means of adaptive polarization filter grids. A preferred embodiment is described as smart sunglasses, realized as see through head mountable device (HMD) configured to reduce glare originating from polarized light. Each eyeglass of the HMD is associated with a grid comprising a plurality of dynamically configurable polarization filters placed in the path of the light. A polarization analyzer module analyzes the polarization characteristics of a field of view and performs an optimization calculation. The polarization analyzer controls the said grid via a controller module in such a way that the filter state of each grid element can be addressed separately. The grid of polarization filters causes the polarization characteristics of the incident light to be adapted in such a way as to reduce glare and/or to provide a user of the said head mountable device with an enhanced visual perception of the field of view.

  • Patent number: 9726896
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer-readable media are described herein related to a virtual monitor display technique for augmented reality environments targeted at allowing a user of a display-enabled computing device to substitute their conventional hardware-realized display screen with a virtualized display screen of equal or better usability characteristics than the hardware-realized device. A virtual screen is rendered via a micro display in an augmented reality environment to a human user wearing a see through head mountable device. The system architecture makes use of liquid lens technology in order to adjust the relative position of the display as well as the focal distance by optical means only thereby ensuring that the virtual screen is rendered at the maximum resolution of the micro display at all times. The system architecture also comprises an occlusion matrix thereby ensuring that the virtual screen is free of ghosting.
