  • Patent number: 11642925
Abstract: A hitch receiver with four walls forming a tube that includes an integrated clamping device for immobilizing inserted accessories. A flexible tube wall acts as a pressure plate to press against the accessory as force is applied. The clamping device further utilizes a backstop attached to a rigid portion of the tube and accommodating a mechanism for generating force. Force can be generated mechanically via a threaded rod operatively connected to a threaded opening in a block located in the space between the backstop and the pressure plate. Clamping force is applied to the pressure plate by the tip of the threaded rod as it is turned in such a way as to force the threaded block against the backstop. Force is applied until the pressure plate deforms, contacts the adjacent wall of the inserted accessory, and presses the accessory against the opposite tube wall.

  • Publication number: 20220250427
Abstract: A clamping hitch comprised of an integrated clamping stabilizing device for immobilizing accessories connecting into a hitch receiver with an outward end defining an opening and four rigid walls forming a tube. The clamping stabilizer modifies one of the rigid walls of the receiver hitch with a pressure plate that is flexible enough to press down tightly against the corresponding wall of the inserted portion of the accessory when force is applied. The clamping stabilizer is also comprised of a backstop attached to the rigid portion of the receiver hitch and of sufficient distance from the pressure plate to accommodate a mechanism for generating force. Force can be generated by hydraulic or pneumatic actuators or, as in the preferred embodiments, mechanically via a threaded rod operatively connected to a threaded opening in a block located in the space between the backstop and the pressure plate.

  • Publication number: 20140166713
Abstract: An improved modular cargo carrying system for safely and securely transporting external cargo with a vehicle. A unique mounting arrangement removably attaches one or more cargo carrier elements to a bumper or external frame member of a vehicle, distributing the cargo weight over a broad area of the bumper or frame member. Multiple cargo carrier elements can be removably attached to each other to form a larger, contiguous cargo carrier structure. Supplemental sides can be removably attached around the perimeter of one or more cargo carrier elements to better restrain cargo. Supplemental support structures can be added to the vehicle in contact with and constraining the bumper or frame member to augment the load carrying capacity and reduce the possibility of fatigue induced bumper or frame member failure.
