Abstract: The present invention is related to the field of portable lighting apparatuses and methods, in particular, apparatuses that are useful for illuminating in the dark, such as at night or in dark spaces; as well as for athletic and physical activities for which illumination is useful. In certain embodiments, the present invention is directed to an illuminating device that is portable and motion activated. Such a device may be useful for pet applications such as collars and leashes, or for human applications such as charms for illuminating in low visibility conditions including sports and law enforcement situations.
