  • Patent number: 5462319
Abstract: A lock for an inswinging door which includes a retainer plate secured to the door jamb by elongated screws extending into and securely anchored to a wall stud or other secure anchor internally of a wall structure. The retaining plate is relatively thin and is positioned between the free edge of the inswinging door and the door jamb with an end edge thereof projecting inwardly beyond the inner surface of the door and door jamb for receiving a locking plate. The end of the retaining plate and locking plate include a unique interrelationship in order that the locking plate can be positioned on the retaining plate in a secure but readily assembled and releasable manner with a substantial portion of the locking plate overlying the inner surface of the door and another substantial portion of the locking plate overlying the door jamb.

  • Patent number: 4856831
Abstract: A security device for an outwardly swining door is shown for use on a door having an interior and exterior door walls and which is mounted in a door frame having opposed, upright door facings. The device includes a pair of restraining bars, one of which is stationary and affixed to the interior wall of the door. The stationary bar is arranged generally perpendicular to and spaced-apart from the door facings on the interior wall of the door. The stationary bar has an opening formed at either end thereof which is adapted to receive the mounting member of a removable bar which overlays the stationary bar and spans the door facings when in place to prevent the door from swining outwardly. The mounting elements of the removable bar are adjustable in length to accommodate doors of various sizes and include curved end portions which are received within the stationary bar openings to thereby mount the removable bar on the stationary bar.

  • Patent number: 4667992
Abstract: A security bar for a door is mounted on retainers on each side of the frame of the door. Each retainer has a base surface, the inclination of which can be adjusted relative to the head of the retainer to accommodate door trim that inclines relative to the plane of the frame. The bar has slots on each end for engaging the retainer. One of the slots is parallel with the axis of the bar for sliding over one of the retainers. The other slot is perpendicular to the axis of the bar for sliding downwardly onto the other retainer. A sliding locking plate locks the bar to the retainer once in position. The retainers can be installed on wooden door frames, or on metal door frames. On metal door frames, a placement hole is drilled on the inside of the door frame to insert a barrel nut. A placement tool holds the barrel nut while tightening to a screw extending through the retainer.
