  • Patent number: 9225386
Abstract: An electronic device includes a Rake receiver for receiving wireless signals, wherein the Rake receiver includes a predetermined number of fingers and a combiner. The Rake receiver also includes a channel detection circuit configured to identify at least one channel tap in a received signal, and a placement circuit configured to place a finger of the predetermined number of fingers at a location corresponding to the at least one identified channel tap. If all of the predetermined number of fingers are not associated with a corresponding channel tap, unplaced fingers of the predetermined number of fingers are placed at locations based on a signal-to-interference ratio estimate at an output of the combiner.

  • Patent number: 6163571
Abstract: A received signal processing circuit for a receiver in a digital communication system uses a re-encode and compare scheme to measure received signal quality. The received signal is demodulated and decoded to produce an estimate of the original information bit sequence. The estimate of the information bit sequence is re-encoded using the same channel code as the transmitter. The re-encoded bits are compared to the demodulated bits output from the demodulator to yield an initial estimate of the channel bit error rate caused by the communication channel. Bias in th4e initial estimate of the channel bit error rate is removed to produce a refined estimate of the channel bit error rate.

  • Patent number: 5881073
Abstract: An improved coding and decoding process is disclosed to determine the ending state of a convolutional decoding using Viterbi algorithm without the use of tail bits. The most important information bits are first coded with a block code. The block code word and the rest of the information bits are then split into several bursts. Each burst is coded with a convolutional code. The most important information bit part of the block code word is then placed in the beginning of the code burst for the convolutional encoder. The parity bit part can be placed between the end of the most important information bit part and the end of the code burst. In the convolutional decoding process for each burst, the ending state is determined by detected valid block code word after combining the convolutional decoding processes for all the bursts. The performances of average BER and missed detection rate can be optimized by moving the placement of the parity bit in each message code burst.
