  • Patent number: 10953386
Abstract: An activated carbon-based media for efficient removal of chloramines as well as chlorine and ammonia from an aqueous stream is presented, and a method for making the same. The method involves preparing activated carbon that removes chloramines efficiently from chloramine-rich aqueous media. In particular, this application relates to the use of high performance catalytically active carbon for an efficient removal of chloramine from drinking water in the form of a solid carbon block or granular carbon media. The activated carbon is treated with a nitrogen-rich compound, such as, melamine.

  • Publication number: 20190177190
Abstract: A water filtration media which prevents or resists the accumulation of microbes while simultaneously addressing the added problem of leaching caused by the treatment of activated carbon. In one preferred embodiment, the combination of Cu and Ag on activated carbon is prepared. Steps are taken to bind the silver and copper using anionic surfactant so that there is less leaching of silver and copper from the media. In a separate embodiment, the combination of Cu and Zn is prepared, which is subjected to high temperature for better binding of the metal oxides with the carbon.

  • Publication number: 20170225968
Abstract: A filter media for the filtration of potable water; specifically, for the removal of arsenic from potable water using iron-impregnated activated carbon enhanced with titanium oxide, such as the titanium oxide mixture used in the commercial product MetsorbĀ®. The activated carbon is subjected to a wet impregnation process using an iron salt solution of approximately 6% of iron(III) chloride FeCl3 solution and 1.25% of NaOH solution.
