    Abstract: A rotational seismometer having a housing that encases an optical lever having a light source for emitting a beam of light through a slit defined by the optical lever that is focused by a lens for focusing the beam of light to a balance bob suspended within the housing is disclosed. The balance bob includes a mirror secured to a plate attached to the housing through an arrangement that includes a thin fiber attached to a stiff wire such that the stiff wire bends and the thin wire does not bend when a tilt motion is applied to the rotational seismometer.
