  • Patent number: 7738876
Abstract: Methods and systems are presented for establishing communications in a wireless local area network involving obtaining at least one channel-specific measurement for each of a plurality of frequency channels, automatically selecting one of the plurality of frequency channels as a selected frequency channel by taking into account the at least one channel-specific measurement for each of the plurality of frequency channels, configuring a present access point (AP) device to transmit and receive data on the selected frequency channel, and configuring a present station (STA) device to transmit and receive data on the selected frequency channel, wherein the present AP device and the present STA device are capable of communicating data within a wireless local area network.

  • Patent number: 7573857
Abstract: Methods and systems are presented for establishing communications in a wireless local area network involving obtaining at least one measurement of load for each of a plurality of access point (AP) devices, automatically selecting one of the plurality of AP devices as a selected AP device by taking into account the at least one measurement of load for each of the plurality of AP devices, and associating a station (STA) device with the selected AP device, wherein the selected AP device and the STA device are capable of communicating data within a wireless local area network. Also, at least one measurement of signal strength as measured at the STA device for each of the plurality of AP devices may be obtained, and automatic selection of one of the plurality of AP devices may further take into account the at least one measurement of signal strength for each AP device.

  • Patent number: 6064886
Abstract: A fixed wireless access system includes circuitry for routing a call for a subscriber having a directory number not only through the primary cell, but also through any secondary cell for a border cell subscriber. In each case, the primary and secondary cells borders a geographically located near the geographic location of the border cell subscriber. For calls that are being routed to the border cell subscriber, one of a plurality of subscriber features including call forward no-answer, call forward unconditional or multiple access directory numbers may be used to cause the switch to trigger one or more fixed wireless access controllers to generate page request signals to the base stations for the border cell subscriber. For calls originated by the border cell subscriber, the subscriber's directory number is placed within the subscriber list for each base station whose cell borders are located geographically near the border cell subscribers geographic location.

  • Patent number: 5765103
Abstract: While setting up a fixed wireless system, each subscriber radiotelephone is configured to a permanent home cell. Subscribers located at the border of a cell may be configured to multiple cells for better coverage. The signal levels at the border subscriber's position are received and the mean values of each determined. These mean values are listed in descending order. If the largest mean value is greater than a predetermined threshold, the subscriber is configured to only the home cell. If the largest mean value is within a predetermined range, the second largest mean value is evaluated to determine if it is within the predetermined range. If so, the subscriber is configured to both serving cells. If the second largest mean value is outside the predetermined range, the subscriber is configured to only the home cell.
