  • Patent number: 4901078
Abstract: A high resolution analog to digital (A/D) converter amplifies and filters a magnitude difference between a pulse width modulated offset voltage and an input voltage to produce an amplified filtered difference voltage, the duty cycle of offset voltage modulation being adjusted such that the magnitude of the difference voltage is within a narrow input voltage range of a recirculating remainder A/D converter. The amplified, filtered difference voltage is converted to representative digital data by the recirculating remainder A/D converter. A microprocessor, which controls the offset voltage, combines the result with the magnitude of the offset voltage to produce a comparatively high resolution digital representation of the input voltage.

  • Patent number: 4458196
Abstract: A method of, and an apparatus for, high speed resistance (R), inductance (L) and capacitance (C) measurement is disclosed. A voltage or current based excitation signal having a very low voltage level and a predetermined waveform is applied to the item whose R, L or C parameter(s) is (are) to be measured; and, voltage measurements are made at predetermined points in the time domain of the output voltage waveform. Whether the excitation signal is voltage based or current based, the particular shape of the waveform (preferably trapezoidal or dual polarity rectangular wave) and the voltage measurement points in the time domain of the output voltage waveform are determined by: (i) the nature of the parameter (R, L or C) to be measured; (ii) the magnitude of the parameter (small or large) in the case of R and C parameters; and, (iii) the series/parallel nature of the parameters in situations where significant amounts of two parameters coexist in the item being measured.

  • Patent number: 4276513
Abstract: An operational amplifier (33) is continuously switched back-and-forth between an auto-zero mode of operation and an accurate amplification mode of operation. During the auto-zero mode of operation, the junction between an offset voltage compensation (e.g., auto-zero) capacitor (35) and the noninverting input of the operational amplifier (33) is referenced to the input signal voltage via a bootstrap amplifier (31), rather than being tied to ground. Further, during the auto-zero mode of operation, the other end of the auto-zero capacitor (35) is referenced to the output of the operational amplifier (33), which is also connected to the inverting input of the operational amplifier. As a result, the auto-zero capacitor (35) is charged to a voltage level equal to the input offset voltage of the operational amplifier, but in polarity opposition thereto.
