    Abstract: A system for preserving data associated with a memory unit having a volatile section and a non-volatile section. The system controls the transfer of data between the volatile and non-volatile sections of the memory unit and also handles successive impending power fail signals so as to preserve data such as transaction totals, for example, and also includes a control means to enable the system to return to a processing point at which the first of the impending power fail signals occurred, thereby avoiding reconstruction of an aborted transaction, for example.
