  • Publication number: 20060165033
Abstract: A method and mobile terminal are disclosed for use in a wireless communication system in order for the mobile terminal to be able to transition from a dual mode, in which a packet switched connection and circuit switched connection are used together, to a single mode in which packets are transferred. The mobile terminal is for receiving minimum system information necessary to perform the transition in an uninterrupted manner, instead of an interrupted manner. This system information is broadcast to the mobile terminal on a regular basis, and is also sent to the mobile terminal partly or entirely by point-to-point transfer if a piece of the minimum system information is missing due to inadequate broadcast reception or some other reason. This system information is then employed by the mobile terminal to transition from the dual mode to the single mode in the uninterrupted manner.

  • Publication number: 20060159059
Abstract: A mobile device, system, and method are disclosed for use in a wireless communication system during the mobile device's transition from a dual mode, in which a packet switched connection and circuit switched connection are used together, to a single mode in which packets are transferred. When the circuit switched connection is released, packet resources are allocated by converting timeslots used for circuit switched connection traffic into timeslots used for packet data traffic. Also included is a new alert signal within an existing message to the mobile device during the circuit switched connection release phase, before completion of the circuit switched connection release phase, in order to inform the mobile device that the converting step will occur after release of the circuit switched connection.

  • Publication number: 20060099986
Abstract: The invention relates to control of transmission power in cellular networks, specifically in cells having transmitters in several frequency bands. The invention allows the network to control the maximum transmission power of a mobile station in more than one frequency band.

  • Publication number: 20060079242
Abstract: A system and method for minimizing signalling loads due to mutual exchanges of information between neighboring cells in which the same session is transmitted, and for reducing the time required to transmit MBMS neighbor cell information messages in a serving cell when a higher level of signalling occurs, wherein all broadcast control channel (BCCH) carriers indicated in a BCCH allocation are monitored by a mobile station (MS). A list of the cells having the strongest non-serving carriers is updated as often as the duration of the running average for measurements of the BCCH allocation. Base transceiver station identity codes (BSICs) and neighboring cell indexes of BCCH carriers are added to an uplink radio link control/medium access control (RLC/MAC) message that is transmitted to a network.

  • Publication number: 20060072534
Abstract: A system and method for reducing idle mode power consumption for mobile stations (MS) that have joined a Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) session and are waiting for the session to start. The invention is also directed to reducing the power consumption of an MS for which an MBMS session is inactive. In alternative aspects of the invention, the power consumption of mobile stations is reduced in the absence of ongoing MBMS session activity. Reduced power consumption is achieved by eliminating the need to read notification messages from an MBMS specific notification paging group when the notification message is for a different MBMS session than the paging group that the MS has currently joined.

  • Publication number: 20060058034
Abstract: A system and method for minimizing the gap in service during the reception of an MBMS session due to the reselection of a neighboring cell in which that MBMS session is not ongoing, wherein a mobile station (MS) indicates its target cell and MBMS service id (i.e., BSIC, neighboring cell index, and Temporary MBMS Group Identity (TMGI)) to a network by sending this information to the network in an RLC/MAC message, e.g., a packet downlink ACK/NACK or with a new message. If the network has resources available for allocation, the network is permitted to allocate these resources for the MBMS session indicated by the MS and send corresponding MBMS neighbor cell information to the MS upon receipt of the packet downlink ACK/NACK or the new message. When the MS receives the MBMS neighbor cell information, it will then reselect to the target cell identified by the MBMS neighbor cell information.

  • Publication number: 20060007877
Abstract: A method and terminal are disclosed for use in a wireless communication system, in order for the terminal to transition from a dual mode, in which a packet switched connection and circuit switched connection are used, to a single mode in which packets are transferred. The mobile terminal is for receiving minimum system information necessary to perform this transition in an uninterrupted manner. This system information is sent to the mobile terminal automatically or on a regular basis, and is additionally sent to the mobile terminal partly upon request of the mobile terminal. A release indication is sent to the terminal separately from the system information, notifying the terminal that the circuit switched connection will be released, at which point a timer is started. The system information is employed by the mobile terminal to transition from the dual mode in the uninterrupted manner, if the timer has not expired.

  • Publication number: 20050261017
Abstract: Controlling the output power level of a dual transfer mode (DTM) capable terminal involves generating a network message. The network message may be a circuit-switched (CS) handover command and/or a point-to-point signaling message. A maximum output power level value is associated with the network message. The network message is transferred from the network to the terminal. A packet-switched (PS) output power level of the terminal is determined using the maximum output power level value received via the network message.

  • Publication number: 20050207396
Abstract: A mobile terminal and method are disclosed for use in a wireless communication system in order for the mobile terminal to be able to transition to a dual mode, in which a packet switched connection and circuit switched connection are used together, from a single mode in which packets are transferred. A packet associated control channel is used to convey a radio link control or multiple access control (RLC/MAC) message, and meanwhile packet switched resources are maintained. Then a dual transfer mode assignment message is received, as a result of using the packet associated channel to convey the radio link or multiple access control message.

  • Publication number: 20050169289
Abstract: A method with which cellular network terminals are informed of a possibility to use services of 3G mobile communication networks in a radio access network. A spare bit of the broadcast message SI3 of GSM system is defined as a bit indicating, whether the current GERAN cell supports UMTS service through the Iu interface or not. In a favourable case, another SI message is broadcast including a description of the PBCCH where Iu information for mobile stations is placed. Should the GERAN support also the GPRS service, said another message is SI13, and if the GERAN does not support the GPRS service, said another message is SI13alt. This message can only be employed by UMTS capable mobile stations. By means of the invention the information presumed by the use of the UMTS network can quickly be acquired by a mobile station, which for example arrives in a GERAN cell.

  • Publication number: 20040190469
Abstract: A method usually for notifying a station of a wireless data transmission session in a communication system is disclosed. The data transmission session is typically receivable by a plurality of stations, usually located within a service area defined in the communication system. The method includes sending on at least one broadcasting channel notifications regarding the wireless data transmission session. A communication system for embodying the method and a message for carrying the required information is also described.
