    Abstract: A stand-alone, computer-based automotive diagnostic and tuning system to be directly plugged into the on-board diagnostic port of the vehicle and powered by the vehicle without the need of any external wires and batteries or other power sources. The system has a first interface for connecting an on-board diagnostic interface of a vehicle, a second interface for connecting to a removable memory device, and a firmware executed to retrieve data of the vehicle through the first interface and to record the data into the removable memory device. The first interface is operative to communicate with the on-board diagnostic interface supported by at least one of pulse width modulation protocol, VPW protocol, ISO9141-2 protocol, ISO 14230 KWP2000 protocol, and ISO 15765 CAN protocol, and the second interface includes a USB interface.
