  • Patent number: 7306825
Abstract: A synthetic leather is made by a impregnating a non-woven or woven textile with an aqueous polyurethane dispersion comprised of a nonionizable polyurethane and an external stabilizing surfactant. The impregnated textile is then exposed to water containing a coagulant for a coagulation time sufficient to coagulate the dispersion. The method may be used to form a synthetic leather having excellent wet ply adhesion and may contain an insoluble multivalent cation organic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 27, 2003
Date of Patent: December 11, 2007
    Assignee: Dow Global Technologies Inc.
Inventors: Larry Wayne Mobley, Ramki Subramanian, Kenneth W. Skaggs, Weijun Zhou, Debkumar Bhattacharjee, Roger Moore
  • Publication number: 20060116454
Abstract: A stable thermally coaguable polyurethane, which can form moisture resistant polyurethane articles is comprised of water having therein an external surfactant, an electrolyte and polyurethane particles, wherein the polyurethane particles are comprised of a nonionizable polyurethane that has ethylene oxide units in an amount that is insufficient to render a stable aqueous polyurethane dispersion in the absence of the external surfactant. A portion of the ethylene oxide units are of a mono hydroxyl polyethylene oxide having a molecular weight of 400 to 1500, polyethylene oxide diol having a molecular weight of 800 to 3000 or combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 6710139
Abstract: An epoxy or phenolic functional polyester/polyether oligomer or polymer having a functionality of greater than 2 and comprising moieties derived from diglycidyl ethers or diglycidyl esters, anhydrides and dihydric phenols. The oligomer or polymer is prepared by (1) reacting a liquid epoxy resin (LER), along with a dihydric phenol, with a cyclic anhydride, in the presence of a catalyst, the cyclic anhydride being employed in an amount sufficient to achieve the desired functionality but insufficient to form gels in the anhydride-modified epoxy resin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 12, 2001
Date of Patent: March 23, 2004
    Assignee: Dow Global Technologies Inc.

  • Patent number: 5710290
Abstract: A suitably functionalized cycloaliphatic nitrile oxide can be used to convert unsaturated sites to alcohol or epoxy sites. The cycloaliphatic nitrile oxide may be useful in applications such as the preparation of polycarbonates, polyurethanes, or crosslinked polybutadiene, or poly(styrene-butadiene). The cycloaliphatic nitrile oxide is represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R' and each R are independently hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, or halo; X and X' are independently hydrogen, halo, hydroxyl, or together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached form an epoxy group, with the proviso that at least one of X and X' is not hydrogen; and n is 1 or 2.
