Patent number: 8644389Abstract: A video processing device includes a video preprocessor and a video processor. The video processor is configured to facilitate inputting preprocessed digital video data ready for further processing by an encoder or a transcoder, compressing the preprocessed digital video data to form compressed digital video data, and outputting the compressed digital video data. The video preprocessor operable to receive digital video raw data, configured to facilitate preprocessing a macroblock of the digital video raw data so as to output the preprocessed digital video data ready for an encoder or transcoder of the video processor when the macroblock does not indicate SKIP, and not preprocessing the macroblock of the digital video raw data when the macroblock is a SKIP macroblock indicating SKIP, but jumping to process the SKIP macroblock by an entropy encoder of the video processor instead.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2010Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Vivekanand Chengalvala, Ran Katzur, Djordje Senicic

Patent number: 8355457Abstract: A method for correcting signals received on a channel. Signals are received along the channel and it is determined how many of the signals are outside a predetermined range relative to a plurality of predetermined constellation points (i.e., erasures). Then, the noise power is estimated the noise power based on the number erasures, and the noise power is used to correct the signals. Specifically, the estimated noise power can be used to correct the signals which have been determined to be outside the predetermined range and which have been determined to contain a large error component (i.e., based on distance from the closest constellation point). A look up table can be used to determine the correction to be applied, and a separate look up table can be used for each tone.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2004Date of Patent: January 15, 2013Assignee: LSI CorporationInventor: Ran Katzur

Publication number: 20120236940Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a parallel method for real-time video encoding in a multicore processor system. A first frame of video data is divided into groups. Each group has one or more rows of a plurality of macroblocks. Motion estimation is performed on a second group following a first group by a first core of said multicore system. While said motion estimation is being performed by said first core, compression-and-reconstruction is performed on said first group by a second core.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2011Publication date: September 20, 2012Applicant: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATEDInventors: Ran Katzur, David Bell

Patent number: 7965797Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for generating a constant amplitude zero autocorrelation (CAZAC) sequence to be transmitted on a wireless communication channel between a user equipment and a base station within a cellular communication network includes iteratively calculating elements of the CAZAC sequence according to a CAZAC sequence formula until a number of iterations has reached a predetermined iteration value determined in accordance with a number of subcarriers associated with the channel; obtaining a value of particular elements of the CAZAC sequence from a table of stored values at predetermined reset iteration values in order to limit error propagation; and generating the reference signal based upon the elements of the CAZAC sequence. The CAZAC sequence formula is one of a Chu sequence, Frank-Zadoff sequence, Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence, and Generalized Chirp-Like (GCL) Sequence.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 2008Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Andres Kwasinski, Ran Katzur, Vijay Sundararajan, Brian Francis Johnson

Patent number: 7630409Abstract: A method and apparatus which provides that, in a voice over network, incoming packets are analyzed and the appropriate moment to increase or decrease the nominal delay associated with a jitter buffer is determined. Hence, the nominal delay is adjusted at an appropriate moment based on network jitter characteristics. Preferably, the nominal delay is adjusted when voice activity is absent. The method and apparatus provide for improved play out of the jitter buffer, and provide improved performance.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 2002Date of Patent: December 8, 2009Assignee: LSI CorporationInventors: Nagendra Goel, Ran Katzur

Patent number: 7170901Abstract: A device and method of controlling a de-jitter buffer, and specifically the nominal delay thereof. The nominal delay is adjusted based on delay information associated with a network in which the de-jitter buffer is located. The nominal delay is maintained between a minimum and maximum nominal delay, and is adjusted based on the probability that a packet will arrive outside a predetermined delay interval.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2001Date of Patent: January 30, 2007Assignee: LSI Logic CorporationInventor: Ran Katzur

Patent number: 6839540Abstract: A method and system which may achieve significantly higher power efficiency for multiple calls from multiple channels in satellite telephony systems. The method and system manipulate the transmission of all channels in a link, (i.e., those channels that are silent as well as those channels that are active) in order to achieve the desired result. The method and system analyze the relationship between power savings for the satellite and system delay to achieve a desired power efficiency without degrading channel quality due to additional delay.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2000Date of Patent: January 4, 2005Assignee: Hughes Electronics CorporationInventor: Ran Katzur

Patent number: 6240303Abstract: A voice recognition system having an enhanced button that allows a driver to reduce his risk of being involved in an accident while operating a vehicle and using a mobile telephone. The present invention is a mobile telephone having a voice recognition system which receives and acts on voice commands. Once the voice recognition system is activated, the mobile telephone can be operated in a hands free mode. The voice recognition system is used to automatically perform the same functions as a keypad. Since a driver can use just the voice recognition system, a keypad is no longer necessary. A mobile telephone equipped with a voice recognition system of the present invention requires only two buttons, a power button and a voice recognition button. To provide further safety, the voice recognition button is implemented to distinguish the voice recognition button from the other buttons to provide easier activation of the voice recognition system.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1998Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Motorola Inc.Inventor: Ran Katzur
