Abstract: A structurally supported LCD media comprising: an initial structural layer; a plurality of addressable layers, each of which having predetermined optical properties, and the layers have LC there-between and have narrow conductive pathways on opposing faces which respectively address a predetermined LC volume between the pathways, and the pathways are respectively accessible for interconnection with a LC electric pulse driving means; a final structural layer being of predetermined optically transparency to frequencies of light scattered by at least one of the other layers; and means for sealing the initial layer to the final layer with the addressable layers there-between.

Abstract: A front-lit display panel includes a pixels units (10) attached to an assembly board at a plurality of pixel receiving positions arranged in a two-dimensional array. Each pixel unit has a layered structure including a sequence of a transparent conductor (20), an active layer (22) containing liquid-crystal-type molecules, and a rear conductive layer (24). Parts of the pixel unit (10) which lie on a side of the rear conductive layer (24) remote from the active layer (22) are designated as the “rear portion” of the pixel unit (10). Each pixel unit (10) also includes a first electrical connector (26) in electrical contact with the rear conductive layer (24) and a second electrical connector (28) in electrical contact with the transparent conductor (20). Both conductors (20, 24) extend to the rear portion of the pixel unit (10).

Abstract: An electronic billboard (EB) system is presented. The system comprises a display device composed of an array of color, reflective, liquid crystal display modules, each including an array of liquid crystals cells, presenting pixels of the display device, and driving circuits selectively operable for displaying a predetermined image by a plurality of said modules; a sensor means; and a control unit for operating said driving circuits, the control unit being responsive to data generated by the sensor means for operating the display device accordingly.
