  • Patent number: 4727730
Abstract: Blood gases and the like are monitored by a single probe having multiple dye wells and dyes immobilized in the wells, the dyes being exposed to the blood gases. Optical fibers and waveguides connected to the dye wells permit light to be directed from a light source to the dyes and the light due to absorption or the spontaneous emission of the dye returned to a light detector. The intensity, phase shift or other mechanism of the returned radiation is a measure of the partial pressure of a respective blood gas.

  • Patent number: 4671446
Abstract: The bonding of a lead wire on a semiconductor having an ohmic contact metal electrode provided locally on a surface at a selected location is achieved through detecting the image of the metal electrode more precisely by enhancing the contrast between the metal electrode and the semiconductor surface. The enhanced contrast is accomplished by illuminating the contact-carrying surface at Brewster's angle with a beam of light rays having a wavelength in the range of the light transmission coefficient of the semiconductor material constituting the chip, and polarizing either the illuminating beam or the reflected beam or both to produce a difference in intensity of light between the contact and the light reflected from the semiconductor area. The illuminating light beam may be passed through a filter means to render a narrow frequency beam of light rays.

  • Patent number: 4637056
Abstract: An optical processing system uses spatial filtering to recognize two-dimensional functions and images. Images of real objects are captured with a television camera. The electronic signals representing the two-dimensional function or image are electronically preprocessed, such as by edge enhancement techniques or by applying a curvature function, and displayed on a narrow-band-phosphor cathode ray tube or television monitor. The monitor image is used directly as the input to an incoherent holographic correlator. Alternatively, the monitor image is used to modulate a source of coherent radiation such as a laser via a spatial light modulator to generate a modulated optical signal which is the input to a coherent holographic correlator. Analyzer circuitry with an optical detector at the correlation plane analyzes the shape of the correlation function to determine the intensity and position of its peak.

  • Patent number: 4461533
Abstract: A method of forming and reading a hologram, useful for instance as a lens, is disclosed which eliminates chromatic aberrations usually present when a hologram is recorded using light of a higher frequency than that for which the hologram is to be used on reconstruction. The fringes created by the interference of two beams of radiation at the recording frequency in a first medium are transferred to a recording second medium by virtue of the second medium having a surface contiguous to the fringes in the first medium. The second medium is then developed to produce a hologram. A reconstruction beam from a laser having a lower frequency than that of the recording beams is directed at a third medium which is contiguous to a surface of the hologram so as to cause the wavelength of the read-out beam to equal that of the recording beams.

  • Patent number: 4441248
Abstract: On-line inspection of electric characteristics of a semiconductor device can be achieved during a step of bonding a lead wire to a chip surface of the semiconductor device in the process of fabricating an electronic component, by the use of a circuit arrangement formed between a lead wire fed from a bonder and connectors serving as electric terminals when the chip is mounted thereon to be made into an electronic component, and by the application of electric power thereto.
