  • Patent number: 5802459
Abstract: A peripheral device which has wireless or cable modes of operation. The peripheral device includes a port for allowing the peripheral device to communicate with a host computer, and which at any given time connects to only a first transceiver for wirelessly communicating with a second transceiver coupled to the host computer or to a cable which is coupled to the host computer. The peripheral device includes a housing which has a chamber for containing the first transceiver when the first transceiver is connected to the port and for containing an end portion of the cable when the cable is connected to the port.

  • Patent number: 5681122
Abstract: A fluid isolation and dispersion system which includes one or more sealing devices to minimize the chance of fluid damage to electronic components. The system includes seals between keys of a keypad and aperture walls in a cover member through which the keys protrude, and a number of chambers around the keys for trapping fluid that has passed through any one of the seals. The chambers are defined by chamber walls linking the aperture walls, and a gasket below the chamber walls. The system may additionally include a channel formed between a periphery wall around the aperture walls and a flexible periphery wall around the gasket for diverting fluid that has passed by any one of the chamber walls, and a spout on one side of the gasket for discharging the fluid from the channel.

  • Patent number: 5479285
Abstract: An isotropic shock mounting to prevent damage to electronic components such as a display mounted in a hand-held signature capture terminal includes a shock gasket which extends around the edges of the display, a carrier in which the display is disposed, a formed metal bezel within which the carrier fits having a cut-out portion through which the display can be viewed, and a plurality of shock grommets positioned at the corners of the carrier to coact with the interior of the housing of the hand-held terminal. This arrangement provides for torsional and beam strength, elastic support of the display, strain relief for TAB and PCB connections, and controlled isotropic deceleration in case of an impact resulting from a fall of the hand-held terminal.
