Patent number: 6089913Abstract: A fitting for connecting a coaxial cable to a terminal or to another coaxial cable is made up of a connector body, an outer sleeve extending from one end of the connector body for insertion of an end of the cable, and a crimping member is loosely connected to the outer sleeve and has a tapered annular portion which in response to engagement by a compression tool will undergo axial movement with respect to the outer sleeve member and impart inward radial deformation to the outer sleeve member into sealed engagement with an external surface of the cable. In a modified form for splicing two cables together, the connector body is provided with outer sleeve members at opposite ends into which the ends of the coaxial cables are inserted and crimping members for crimping both of the sleeve members into sealed engagement with each of the respective cables.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1998Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Inventor: Randall A. Patent number: 5975949Abstract: A coaxial cable end connector for connecting a cable to a terminal has inner and outer spaced concentric sleeves, the outer sleeve provided with sealing rings which are formed out of the thickness of the outer sleeve along a crimping zone of the sleeve to minimize the crimping force required to crimp the outer sleeve by inward radial deformation into sealing engagement with the cable. Preferably, the wall thickness of at least a portion of the outer sleeve is reduced in order to further reduce the crimping force required to deform the sleeve into sealing engagement with the cable. In certain applications, an external annular seal is interposed between confronting surface portions of one of the inner and outer sleeves and a coupling member which makes up onto the terminal in sealing against moisture infiltration.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Randall A. Patent number: 5863220Abstract: An end connector fitting for splicing electrically conductive members, such as, coaxial cables together includes splicing devices which are threaded onto opposite ends of the fitting to cause deformable sleeve portions at opposite ends of the fitting to be crimped into sealed engagement with each electrically conductive member, and the splicing devices can be left in place after the crimping operation. The splicing devices may be formed with unitary tapered surface portions or separate tubular inserts with tapered surface portions to impart the necessary crimping force to the sleeve portions. In an alternate form, the fitting may be provided with a single splicing device at one end to crimp the sleeve portion into sealed engagement with an electrically conductive member and the opposite end being adapted for connection to a post or terminal.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1996Date of Patent: January 26, 1999Inventor: Randall A. Patent number: 5743131Abstract: There is disclosed a tool for connecting a cable fitting to the end of a coaxial cable. The tool is made up of one or more dies with a cavity therein, a carrier chuck which is axially spaced from the die surfaces to support the fitting in relation to the end of the cable, and a handle pivotally mounted to cause axial movement of the carrier chuck. The carrier chuck is pushed toward the die surfaces to axially force the fitting into the die cavity to reduce the circumference of one end of the fitting into a generally conical configuration securely engaging the cable. A radial ratchet mechanism on the handle prevents the carrier chuck from moving away from the die until the fitting has been fully and properly secured to the cable. The dies are specially shaped to have a guiding portion which smoothly and consistently guides the fitting into proper relation to the dies, and a stop limiting portion to prevent the fitting from being forced too far into the die.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1996Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: ICM CorporationInventors: Randall A. Holliday, Ricky A. Yates

Patent number: 5732747Abstract: There is provided a cove molding cover for use in routing and protecting electrical cables and cords along the inside corners of buildings. The cove molding cover assembly includes clips which are attached to one or more of the surfaces defining the corner, and a cover strip which is snapped into place upon the clips. Each of the cover strips has arcuate lips running along its margins, while the clips have circular beads extending from their sides. The beads are insertible into the lips to attach the cover strip to the clips. Because the beads are free to rotate within the arcuate lips, and because the clips and covers strip are flexible, the entire assembly can be flexed to accommodate any variations or irregularities in the angle between the surfaces defining the corner.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1997Date of Patent: March 31, 1998Assignee: ICM CorporationInventor: Randall A. Patent number: 5667405Abstract: A coaxial cable connector for connecting a coaxial cable to a terminal port wherein a connector sleeve assists in retaining an end of the coaxial cable, and a coupling member between the sleeve and the port draws the sleeve into flush engagement with an end of the port, an improved sealing device is provided in which an annular seal member is interposed between a grooved portion on the forward end wall of the sleeve, the annular end of the port and within the coupling member, the seal being of a size greater than the groove and being partially compressed into the groove when the sleeve and port are drawn together so as to prevent moisture infiltration through the connecting interfaces between the coupling and connector as well as the coupling and port; and an extension wall of the connector which surrounds the end of the coaxial cable is selectively increased in thickness so as to prevent its collapse when a crimping force is applied to the extension wall.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1996Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Inventor: Randall A. Patent number: 5651699Abstract: A terminal connector assembly for connecting coaxial cables to a selected device, such as, a cable television is made up of an adaptor and socket in press-fit relation to one another with an end connector at one end of the adaptor having endless sealing rings along an inner wall surface of an outer sleeve of the connector and spaced serrations or gripping edges along an external wall surface of an inner sleeve so that when the cable is inserted into the end connector with the outer conductor and jacket in the annular space between the inner and outer sleeves, the outer sleeve can be crimped inwardly to cause the ribs to advance into uniform sealed engagement with the jacket and the gripping edges will cooperate in resisting any tendency of the cable to separate from the end connector. The socket portion either can be directly attached to a cable television terminal or wall plate or may include a second end connector for crimped connection to another coaxial cable extending from the terminal or wall plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1995Date of Patent: July 29, 1997Inventor: Randall A.
